Just had my fuel pump replaced, no more humming at start up.

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Well apparently they had the fuel pump but the O-ring seal was not in the box. So I have to wait another day to get my baby back.

I also had to get the TPMS reset. Got the system failure warning. Worried that it's going to be a recurring issue.

On another note, I asked my sales rep if it was possible to get some touch up paint for the plastic part of the steering wheel. There's a hairline scratch to the right of the cruise control buttons. Didn't notice it until after I bought the car. It's just an annoying cosmetic flaw, but I was willing to live with it if there's was no way to get the paint.

My sales rep called me back and said that they can replace the entire steering wheel just to make me completely satisfied with my purchase!

Is this on start up only? I have a constant hum coming from the rear of the location at idle and even low cruise speeds.

I would have it checked out. My bad pump made noise at start up in the beginning and then I heard the humming while driving and on hard acceleration.

I posted this on another thread a second ago, but I guess it's more relevant here....

My EX just went in for a service, I just got off the phone with them, its nearly ready, just being washed, but she said they had replaced the fuel pump, and asked if I had noticed a hum when you first start it up. Quite honestly I hadn't, although maybe when I get it back in a couple of hours I will miss a hum.

Anyway, they replaced this without me asking, I hadn't mentioned any hum or anything about the fuel pump when I took it in, it was just in for a regular service. Is this a recall, or are they not classing it as that?

The same for me, received a message on my cell that my part was in. I called them and ask what part?, i was told it was a fuel pump. they said that it was humming when i had it in for service. Great service, i don't think some other car company would do this for you. I have to burn up some gas before i bring it in......................................:-)Update 10/24/08The part came in and had it installed. It only took them about an hour to do. They still gave me a loaner for the time i was their. At the old age never could hear the humming in the first place.....:-)

I also thought that the hum at start up from the rear was normal. After I gave my dealership a call the first wk of September to inquire about the recall, I figured there was no need to be concerned per their reassurance.

I am glad to see your post, that you had yours replaced at Markham Infiniti. I will have to give them a call to let them know this will also need to be fixed when I bring my car in for its first service next week.

It should be done easily.

BTW I haven't seen a Blue Onyx EX on the street yet, not even from dealer.

I haven't seen too many EX35 around the GTA, the majority are FX.

Only in the last month have I driven by 4 EX while downtown. Saw a tidewater and chestnut around Davenport 2wks ago, and a white while driving up Don Mills. I guess it will take a while before there are more EXs on the road.

What's your colour?

Add me to the list of owners with this problem... I received the car from the dealership like this so apparently no one caught it... I thought it was normal at first, but then thought that it would be odd for it to sound that way. Glad I found this board. Will be calling them tomorrow about it.

Had my pump replaced when I brought the car in for the first service. No more hum at start up. By the way, the service was also performed at Circle Infiniti. They couldn't have been nicer.

Ok I've been trying to hear this on my EX (just got it). And (I hope I dont jinx it) I dont seem to hear anything humming. I hear a strange wheezing sound that I think is the hard drive spooling up for the navi upon start up.

If mine was manufactured after the TSB was issued would infiniti have replaced them in the factory? How do you tell the manufacturing date from the VIN?

Just look on the driver's door sill plate for date of manufacture.

Wow I didnt know that...now I look silly. I just seem to remember from past forums that the date can be decoded from the VIN. Never actually thought it was stuck somewhere on the car, lol.

Update: It's not quite on the door sill as I had thought. Look instead for a sticker near the bottom of the B-pillar.

I was wrong the wheezing buzzing sound I was hearing was from the CD spooling up at startup.

Thought I dodged the fuel pump issue, as ours was bought in 02/08 and no issues -- until today. It's obvious when the noise starts (even the wife noticed it and brought it to my attention last night)

Took it to the dealer (It was going in today anyhow for weather strip replacement). Service tech tells me, after listening to my car -- "they all do that". I tell him there's a TSB out on this and he doesn't believe me. Over to the service advisors desk, where I send them to NICOclub dot com -- and scrolled down to the post with the TSB in it -- he goes and looks it up and says "I'll be damned" ... so now the pump is on order.

Gotta love NICO!

Had my EX35 fuel pump replaced yesterday and the noise is gone.

Dealer kept telling me "they all make that sound, it's normal". I directed them to the NicoClub.com site because it isn't normal (thanks to everyone who posted about this problem).

When I went to pickup my car the Server Manager showed me a "Service Bulletin" (or something like that) from Infiniti noting that some EX35's are making noise at start-up. He said he just got info from Infiniti that day...not sure if that's true or not.

Anyway, sounds like Infiniti does realize there is a problem.

Had the same problem and 2 weeks ago had the pump replaced under warranty. The fuel pump is located under the driver's seat. Unfortunately, and contrary to the dealership's claims, gas was spilled inside the vehicle. The smell is subsiding but 2 weeks later it's still there and yesterday's "deodorizing" did nothing. Service manager claims he can't smell it and all that does for me is leave me questioning his integrity. I thought Infinity was supposed to be above this bulls#$t? I have no choice but to toss the front and (especially) the rear driver's side rugs and hope that the spill was just there and not under the set too.

I had my Fuel Pump replaced 3 days after the delivery, when i bought my car i did not even test drive it or seen it in person so i was too excited about the car did not even noticed about the pump humming sound, i had them bring the loaner to me when they picked up my EX and the guy who brought it to the Service found out my telescoping wheels were also making serious broken gear sound so they took care of it.

I was expecting more power from changing the fuel pump cause i thought stock EX is way slower than Stock G, its still slower than G, i guess i am asking too much for a CUV or maybe its the new feature EX offering RPM matching transmission.

Hi mcub3, sorry for the delay in responding. I brought my car in for its first service at Markham and had them check on the fuel pump. They did not have the parts in stock, so I returned 3days later to fix the fuel pump. Its nice and quiet now. Thank goodness to this forum for giving me the heads up, I knew what sound to listen for and made sure to ask the dealer to fix the pump.

You expected your EX to be faster than a G after replacing your fuel pump with a replacement pump? You can't be serious... The G has basically the same engine and is substantially lighter. Very simple

and 06 G has 20 less HP... i just thought bad fuel pump could actually decrease the power on the engine, as i mentionedi guess i am asking too much from CUV.

I went today to have my oil changed. I mentioned it to the service writer guy and he went ahead and ordered my one.

Very painless....
