Last week I bought the 2011 SL AWD and got the dealership to install a remote starter among other things. I picked the car up today and the lady was going through the car explaining everything. When we moved on to the car starter she took a deep breath and said that to use the remote starter I have to push the start button on the remote and the car will start, later when entering the vehicle I have to push the brake pedal which turns off the car, then turn the knob to start the vehicle again. She said I have to start the car twice because of the keyless system it has.

Here in Canada I use the remote starter 6 months of the year I can't help but feel this just takes away the awesomeness of buying a brand new car.
I feel I should have been told about the needless wear and tear from starting twice before putting down $400 on the starter. This just leaves a bad taste
in my mouth. Thinking either I find a fix for this or I go back to the dealership and talk to the manager about getting my $400 back.
It would be different if I was selling this car 5 years from now but I plan on keeping this car for a very long time.
And who the hell forgot to put auto lights in this car??? come on really???... Ah hell, this has just put me in a bad mood damn it

Your salesman was an idiot. The brake disengages the auto start system. If you press the brake before you insert your key and turn it to the on position, it will shut down the car and you'll have to start it over again.

Try this.. use the remote start to start up your car. Then walk out to it, unlock the door, and get into the seat. BEFORE you put your foot on the brake, insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position. THEN put your foot on the brake pedal to disengage the auto system and revert to standard operation. Then go for a drive...

Oh, and by the way.. Welcome to NICO. Glad to have you on board! Cheer up.. you'll love the Rogue!

I don't insert any key, I leave the key in my pocket and just turn the ignition. I suppose your idea would work but it wouldn't be a keyless system anymore lol. I like the idea of leaving the keys in my pocket and pushing the button on the door. I could do that until they come out with a proper fix though. Thanx for your help

Can you turn the ignition then before putting your foot on the brake?

There has got to be some way around the whole foot on the brake to start the car thing. As long as its in park it should be good.

the 2011 rogue with the SL package does have auto lights....I should know...i have one. It is the first option on the light knob......auto, parking light, and then headlights.

The auto start issue has been discussed in this forum as well. I knew about it before i bought the car, and my research made me decide not to get it. I was more concerned about the possibility of someone driving off with the car after begin remote started on a keyless system. I guess being forced to restart would prevent that from happening.

But there was one alternative that i saw.....the dealer can permanently plant the spare keyfob in the car somewhere, and that way it is recognized when the car is started and you will be able to turn the key to the on position and go.......But this too, posed a big security risk in my book. I would advise against the remote start.

The only thing i would have used it for was to warm the car on a cold day.....but it would take 15mins to get the car as warms as it gets just driving it for 2minute. A big waste of gas.

Its really not that difficult. Heck its not even that difficult to drive a manual. But this is 2011. These smal modern features actually makes a car "COOL". I for one, do agree that Rogue could have used few small features to make this crossover a bit more attractive. My wife wondered a lot, why I was so looking to add stuff to a new car. But I liked the oppurtinity to do that, too.

I'd have love to get MP3 player as standard also, beside the auto light option.

I got the sv so no auto lights for me. I have to admit, I do miss it. And if it weren't for the car beeping at me, I would never remember to turn the lights off. That's the thing about getting used to stuff like that, it's hard to undo the new wiring in the brain. So I can understand why that would be a frustration.

About hiding a key inside...I was told the day I picked the car up, if I had trouble with the door opening, it might be because I left the other fob in the car somewhere. He was under the impression it may cause a malfunction of the auto door opening. Anyone else heard that?

Your first dead battery will help with that! I hate cars with auto headlights. I'd much rather make my own decision of when to turn lights on/off.

Almost all my cars had auto lights and it is the SL AWD.... That and its 2011 so i guess 2+2=5. I can get used to that but im thinking of going to get my $400 back
for the remote starter. Just not worth the damage over time. I assume just Canadians got left out of the auto lights then??

I do not have the auto headlights and often times just always leave them on. Even when leaving the vehicle parked. The Rogue's ECU has a timer inside it which automatically shuts off the headlights if they're left on and the key is not present. It's somewhere between 3 and 5 minutes I'd say. (haven't actually timed it) Then when you get back in and start it, the lights come back on.
Since the Rogue is not a 10 year old car, the affects on the battery are negligible.

No problem. YMMV with year changes, but you said you would test it anyway, so let us know if the light idle timer is different on the 2011.

I'm running the stock HID's that came with my SL. I do have Hoen yellow fog light bulbs and V-LED's dual-color (white/orange) turn signal LED's though.

Stock HID... Awsome
Mine are "3rd world country" stock but wow these reflectors have a really nice beam pattern to them.
I am trying to find projectors to put HIDs in but don't think they make them.
How do you like the V-LED's? They are white until you signal then they go orange?

The Rogue has a battery saver. The headlights, fogs, dome light, map lights, etc will automatically turn off after 5 min. It's described on pg 2-34 of your owners manual.

They're alright, but I bought the brightest ones at $80 or so, and they could still be brighter. The main thing is just that the Rogue front headlight turn signal reflectors weren't made for the light pattern that LED's put out. It doesn't 'throw' the light onto the road like the stock incandescents do. They're bright enough to be safe, but I may still upgrade to brighter ones if they come out with them.
And yeah, they're white and then as soon as you put on the turn signal, they change to orange. Once the turn signal has been canceled, they go off, take about a second, then go back to white.

As far as projectors go, I don't think anyone makes a projector kit for the Rogue. However, our forum member Leo2005 has modified his stock housings to accept Infinity Q45 projectors. q45-projectors-on-nissan-rogue-t351086.html

As Nick mentioned, Leo2005 did the Q45 'machine gun' headlamp retrofit. Very unique.

A couple of other members (Including Leo2005) purchased the stock HID housings (Reflector type as projectors were never available) that were available on US spec Rogues. This is about the closest you can get to OEM HID's. The only difference is the lack of manual headlamp aiming adjustment (Stock HID equipped Rogues have a dial on the dash to adjust headlight aim). It worked out pretty good:

I asked the guys at the (highly regarded) Quinn security if they could make it so I don't have to restart my car when I use the factory installed remote starter and (although arrogantly) said yes..."because we only only use the best parts unlike your Canadian tire starter". He said $550 and he could do it the way I want it.
Besides the arrogance there was just something off with him so I decided to check out Autotemp and it was just a flat no. He's dealt will quite a few of these intellikey systems and unfortunately the only way around it is void the warranty or create some safety issues so they won't even attempt it. Hmmm maybe I should leave the starter on and down the road a new part will come out which allows me to use it properly. Or get my $400 back from the dealership lol I still dunno

Astro Start does work!!! Once you are within 31" with the key present the cylinder will turn without depressing the brake.

My trunk won't stay latched if there's a keyfob inside. My doors won't lock if there's a keyfob inside. It would surprise me if a newer Nissan didn't include that feature.
