I'm currently rebuilding my head, and changing all gaskets involved with the cylinder head, to restore compression to my engine. (The HG was blown, injectors were bad, etc.)

And, after it is all assembled I plan to smog it. Can you pass smog with an aftermarket exhaust? I have the catalytic converter on there.

Anywho, away from my rambling, I wanna swap my cams. Cause I'll be N/A for a while and I'd like to make the most fun out of it. I have a 248 exhaust cam so I can do 248/248 but I've heard that 240/248 and 232/248 are really good as well.

1. If I were to do the 240/248 couldn't I just switch my cams around, since I have an S13? Do I rotate any teeth? CCW or CW? When you guys say rotate teeth you mean on the sprocket, right?

2. If I do the 232/248, I use the EXHAUST cam out of an S13 right? I've heard the intake is different and has problems. Also, do I rotate the 232 cam, and if so how many teeth CCW/CW?

3. If I do the 248/248 cam swap, I leave my current exhaust cam in and just replace the intake with the 248 exhaust cam correct? People say the optimal set up is 3.5 teeth CCW, how...would you rotate the sprocket 3.5 teeth?

Thanks for your time to answer my idiotic questions. I did research though, and I'm learning! I just really don't want to bend my new valves in my freshly rebuild head.

I got it all figured out.

Im about to put the head back on my car with my stock cams...question is...when I set my motor to TDC before taking the head off (2nd notch on pulley) the front lobes weren't facing out and they looked nothing like in this picture. They were facing down, and the back lobes were out.

So...If I just set my cams like they are in that picture, and put my timing chain back on exactly like how it is in that picture, it'll fire up with no problems?
