Mike Miller wrote:Brian/Others: How much does time count on the timing belt replacement. I only have 54,000 on the 1993 J30T but it is 14 years old. I know the manual calls for replacement at 60,000 or 48 months. Just wondering how important the time factor is? Thanks again for the help! Mike

Umm....no 93 J30t is 14 years old. Even if it was purchased in late 92...1992-2003=12 years, not 14.

Yea, I can't count sometimes. A little over 10 years as of now.

Finished the timing belt replacement and all went well! It really helps to have a retired mechanic living next door. He did most of the work. I have a new mechanical sound though that I cannot identify. It only happens when the engine/transmission is warm and in gear. I sounds like a chugging noise , at low RPM, while in gear and at operating temperture. I/m sure it is not coming from the engine itself but slightly behind the engine. The transmission shifts normal. Any help/comments would be appreciated. I had the trans serviced about a year ago with normal pan drop and filter change. Thanks, Mike Miller 1993 J30T!!!

Where is the noise coming from? Underneath the car, under the hood? Describe the chugging noise in more detail. It sounds like it might be a vaccum leak or a bad pump.

In gear, outside the car with the hood up and engine running, I cannot hear it. In side the car I hear it and it sounds like it is coming from behind the engine and up through the floor board. The noise is like a low thump, thump, almost like a exhaust/manifold leak but not quite. A very quite train like chug chug is as close as I can get. Only in gear and at operating temp. Sometimes, at operating temp., it is worse than other times. It seems to vary in intensity. What kind of pump could cause that type of noise? Thanks for the help, it is appreciated!!!! MIKE
