True for BG machine, but not true for the Sun machine which has its own pump.

Well. I got my pan dropped and cleaned and a new filter and gasket yesterday. Drained the oil fluid out and replaced with new. While my car was on the lift, my mechanic showed me that the pan had been leaking a little and it was greasy drivers side of the pan. I couldn't pick up the car yesterday so I got itthis morning. It shifts MUCH better. I was upset at myself for not noticing the transmission before.

Before I took it to my trusty mechanic, I stopped by a shop I'd never been to, just to get a quote. After a quote on the fluid exchange, I said I wanted my pan dropped and filter cleaned. They tried to tell me that Q45 transmission's don't have pans and that the filter was inside the transmission so they'd have to dismantle the whole thing. I said no, not true. Then the one jerk says "Is it like a Honda?" I look at him and tell him I don't know. I brought in a high end luxury car, what the hell do I know about Honda's?

In spite of his "fanboy"ish personality and obsession with Mobil, I must admit that Brian was right. The transmission shop was filled with incompetent jerks. Didn't know arses from elbows. I will admit that I was wrong in that aspect.

Tech, have you ever had a problem with a car driving into the service bay sans problem and have it not be able to move after a fluid exchange (no chemicals)? These transmission jerks acted like it was a normal occurence for them.

How long should I wait to do another fluid exchange and possibly use a can of BG transmission Cleaner? I swear on my unborn children and on whoever else is willing to bet their child's life, that once my transmission is back in tiptop and the fluid sparkles, IT'S GOING TO STAY THAT WAY!! Swear to God.

I had a transmission chemical clean and flush done about a year ago. The results were amazing. The flush and synthetic fluid solved my problems. Was your transmission shifting rough from 1st to 2nd and how is it after the flush? Same with smooth shifting and slipping before and after. What AT fluid did you end up using?

First to second was kind of ugly. It felt much better today. What I really noticed was my shifting into I guess 3rd? Usually there was a jerk and then i felt the acceleration. This morning, it just went smoothly. I didn't feel it.

I wanted to enjoy the fruits of my wallet today, but the automotive gods must be angry with me. They caused it to rain again. I can't do any type of fun stuff today.

As far as fluid goes, I don't know what brand. I couldn't stick around to watch (Wish I did though). I left the car because I was late for work and my Dad was supposed to pick it up at 5. He got off work late and the shop was closed. So i picked it up first thing this morning.

I'm sure that I still have some more fluid exchanging to do though. How long should I go before I drain, BG Flush, and refill?

Check the line that goes up the driver's side from the tail of the transmission. If it is coated all the way with ATF, you have a bad turbine sensor. This will cause some rpm matching problems for the TCU.

Don't confuse a drain and fill with a mechanical exchange. Only the latter will get all the tar out. Drain and fill will leave about 10 qts. of tar to mix with your new fluid.

Redline and Amsoil are good synthetic ATF also. We just don't know how to modify them to work like OEM ATF like we can the M1.

How do I check the line without having the car on a lift? And it's raining so I can't really crawl under the car. Damn. I really hope that I don't have the bad turbine sensor. How hard is it to replace? Is it expensive?

How long should I wait to get the chemical flush and refill?

Redline D4 atf is just a super synthetic group 5 based Dexron 3 type fluid, and really needs no modification for our application whatsoever-however it can be duped with Lubegard just like mobil 1 atf if you feel the need to{I have run both of these for 180,000+ miles with excellent results,m1 both virgin and duped with lubegard, redline never duped} The redline comes out so fresh at 25,000 mile changes,it almost seems criminal to discard it.

And still now answer to "How long do I wait to chemical flush?"

That is exactly when you want to exchage it, when there is no or barely discerible degradation but it has served its miles and time.

I run straight M1, but a couple of posts by TexasOil convinced me the engagement could be smoother so I will add LubeGrard Red next time on them all.

No real point in waiting. Drive it for a few hundred miles in city traffic first.

So after the city driving, get the chemical flush?

I only ask because I'd rather not make a mistake on such a crucial part of my car. Secondly, there are SO many differing opinions on proper transmission maintenance schedule and method and the like. I've read like at least 10 different topic posts dealing with this subject, some going back to 2005.

That's it.

Heheh, yeah, too many opinions. The details aren't really all that critical.

1.) You want to get ALL the old fluid out, so you do a "flush" - a chemical flush with cleaners is preferred

2.) You want to get anything that's in the pan out of there, so you do a pan drop.

Now you know your pan is clean, so you flush it. After the flush, if you want to be picky, drop the pan again.

Techs have had LOTS of experience with the "ever since" syndrome - " Ever since you dropped my pan, I've been having trouble with my transmission - your fault". So they don't like to drop the pan. On Q45s, it's been an universally good thing to do. I don't think I ever read a post by a Q45 owner that had trouble after a pan drop - most shift noticeably better afterwards. So we twist arms and make them do it.

Multiple flushes will get out all the old nasty fluid. Do it now or in a couple weeks - I doubt you could find any measurable difference either way. Once you know your fluid is clean, you can relax and hope your transmission goes past 200K, like mine.

Ok. Good. I'm been babying the transmission since after my fluid exchange because I was scared that it was still in a fragile stage.

Sounds better.

So can I use a can of BG ATC on the transmission during a fluid exchange? Or just pour the ATC in, run it through the gears, drain it, and top it off with fresh fluid?
