I found out where mine was tonight.....

Floating at the bottom of my oil pan.

Where it used to be attached to the pickup tube.

The strainer opening.

The pickup tube, with the windage tray removed. My engine has been taking in oil through just this tube, I'm rather surprised its not knocking. Good thing I'm so anal about keeping my oil level perfect.

The broken S13 SR strainer next to the new S14 SR strainer, notice the differences.

I think Im going to do an article on this one, once I get the pan all cleaned up and ready to install.

I see that the new support is attached to body of pickup and not the oil feed tube. It looks like a "product improvement" to me. Maybe you got and older one????

I wouldn't say soon. I've been dealing with odd oil pressure issues for almost a year. I was experiencing dropouts in oil pressure during hight cornering and throttle situations. It would drop for just a second. I replaced every part of the oil monitoring system. Gauge, sender, tubing, even the entire oil filter housing. It was such a weird issue that I thought it was a false reading. Now it all makes sense.

Thats one of the differences between the S13 and S14 SR pickup tubes. I have an S13 SR, but I chose to use the newer strainer because they redesigned it. The opening is also larger on the S14 unit.

The S14 strainer uses a different bolt hole on the girdle, but it bolts up with no modification to anything.

For $45 for the strainer and gasket from FRSport, I agree. Had I been aware of the problem, I would have dont this years ago.

I wonder if pan ever got smashed up and then later replaced?!?!?Maybe it started a crack and cycle fatigue finished it off. No doubt that the S14 pickup is the answer.

Not the first time I've seen that happen. Next time I pull my pan, I'm replacing it with the updated part.

If it was floating then it must have not been at the bottom of the pan.

Was the pan dented or anything?

I went to look at a g20 last night that the owner said nothing was wrong with it: The oil pan was smashed in like 2 inches! I could see the outline of the pickup. I told the seller about it and a oil leak. He didn't act too surprised and wouldn't come off the price. I didn't want it after that.

When I got the engine 5 years ago, the pan was a little dented, but I straightened her out. This time, she has a ding here and there, but nothing substantial.

Good luck getting that bolt in for the mounting bracket on the pickup. WHAT A PAIN!

I got in by using a flat head screw driver to keep it in place, and then getting it started with an open ended wrench. Hated every minute of it.

You aren't kidding. I already had it installed when I posted this thread last night. The bolt was a b****andahalf. Not to mention, retard me still had the oil pan laying under there to catch residual drips, and I droped the bolt into it 3 times before sucking it up, and letting it drip on the floor.
