Is the O2 housing hitting or the down pipe??? I have custom flanges for the down pipe so you can build 3" one...

the o2 housing pipe is hitting the steering shaft... using the stock mounts and RB crossmember.

its hitting to the point where if i install the downpipe it actually moves the engine to the passenger side.

well since there is no DP or intercooler it runs like ***, loud and spitting smoke cause its running richer than bill gate's kids. but from the short time its been on it seems to do OK, no vacuum leaks, strong idle and sounds like its banging on all 6 cylinders.

i used the RB crossmember and modified it to fit my KA mounts, because my RB mounts were destroied when they arrived on my clip.

Congrats bud! Nothing beats that first start feeling does it.

This is how Hybrid went about fixing his dp problem. http://www.simplydrift.com/RBS14/downpipe.jpg

Hybrid did a good job welding since it still doesn't leak or anything. That is a cut down version of the stock DP/o2 houseing for the flange. He went ahead and integrated the frontpipe into it the whole thing. The second to last bend is kind of tight, so he said he is going to redo it with some more angle cuts to smooth it out(that is all from one long piece of 3" straight pipe).

I don't know yet how bad my downpipe clearance is going to be (RB20 into a '92), but I'm hoping I can mark the old downpipe where it would hit the steering shaft, take it to a good exhaust shop and have them fabricate me a 3" one...

Is there a possibility of putting say a 1/2" shim flange between the turbine outlet and the O2 housing flange? That would put the O2 housing back 1/2"... is that enough to clear the steering? You'd need to get some new studs for the turbine to O2 housing connection tho.

see the problem with my s14 is not the flange, the actual pipe between the flanges is hitting, im not sure if moving it an inch or so would work...thats a good idea im gonna go look at my o2 housing now and see :)

a local muffler shop could make you one, unless you're planning to weld your own.

If you cut it back like hybrid's the dp/o2 housing is 3" pipe. Make sure if you do weld your own you heat up the cast dp so it doesn't crack when the welder starts its business. We thought about this and shot back and forth with ideas on how to do it.

We thought about shimming the flange so it would angle away, but this would lead to the frontpipe possibly not mating up correctly with the rest of the exhaust and would be a fairly mediocre fix. Neither of us liked knotching the dp because it would not allow for very much clearance if any, and would also be a mediocre fix.

I had seen a skyline with a custom titanium exhaust system that was done it all angle cuts for the bends, and I brought up this idea which worked out since we had a welder, Hybrid can weld, and we had no access to a mandrel bent 3" pipe locally. Hybrid really worked his magic on it considering the cast dp didn't crack, it fits very well, and it still doesn't leak.

I'm sure some hot rod shop could do something similar with your setup.

you would think so wouldnt you? 80% of the shops i have called 1) "cant do bends that tight" 2) just wont touch it.

if i didnt care i would just take this week off and go back down to tucson to get it finished, but i need to keep my GPA at a 4.0 if i want to get a good job when i get out :)

so another couple weeks wont kill me because its been so damn long. but jesus hearing that thing rumble to life brought back memories of the first swap i did in my civic like 2 years ago. since then ive done so many for my friends when a swap started i never felt anything special other than "good it runs"

Yeah, patience is key with engine swaps. My 240 has been sitting in my driveway, immobile, since August '02. I've owned it for nearly a year and a half and I haven't even gotten to drive it yet :(

Haha just like me, I bought my 240 with no motor so all I could do was sit in it and pretend like I was driving it. :D

Technically, I could have started driving mine, as long as I didn't mind driving with an obscenely loud knocking/rattling noise as the #2 piston slammed against the head, presumably due to a spun rod bearing....

Kamin, did you find out if a spacer will work or not yet?

My brother and I have finished wiring, PS lines, etc., and will be bolting the RB into the S14 tonight or tomorrow sometime. So we should get to see what you are dealing with pretty soon here.

I think we will leave the steering disconnected for now so that we can crank up the engine with the downpipe on (just to hear it).
