I also had a Saab 9-5 (with the V6) before trying an Infiniti for the first time with the EX35. I loved the Saab for the most part but then never really felt comfortable with the cost of maintenance, the dealer and the service, or the shoddy resale value. Overall I couldn't bring myself to get another Saab, especially with the state of GM, though there are things about the car that I will absolutely miss. Prior to the Saab I had a great experience with an Acura Integra. Very reliable and nice fit and finish and I never forgot how much I enjoyed having a hatchback. But, after the Saab, I wondered if I preferred European design and driving dynamics (and utility; wagons and folding down back seats available galore) more than the Japanese. I considered an Audi A4 wagon and the A3, and had hoped to wait for the BMW X1 but my Saab gave out before its release, but ultimately I was too wary of Audi reliability and dealer service and would have had to spend $5-10K more on a comparable vehicle. The EX's discounting just was too much to walk away from and I really liked the smallness of it with the option of folding down the seats and putting in a bike or a dog or a coffee table or whatever. My Integra revisited but without having to be in some clunky SUV. I had people suggesting the Toyota RAV4 and the Subaru Forester, but they just pale in comparison in terms of luxury and refinement and driving experience. The A3 might've been a good one for me, but again, the reliability issues and they are coming out with a total redo in 2010 and it would've driven me crazy to have the older model. Hopefully I won't be driven crazy when the 2010 EX35 comes out with a better engine and some more legroom. If they do the European dog barrier and hooks, I'm going to be really pissed! : ) In any event, that 2010 will probably be at least 5 grand more (probably won't discount as much) so it all works out. The other issue I worry about is resale value. When things get SO discounted on the front end, be wary about what is to come on the back end, eh?
I guess all they'll be able to do with the 2010 is increase the back legroom by making shorter seats and no expansion then of the cargo area. My dog feels a bit claustrophobic in the back and she's pretty small. I heard that it was only shortening of the seats, as opposed to a change in the vehicle dimensions. Does anyone have more info?
Anyway, I am really enjoying the car so far. I think it'll be a good fit for me. However, I am still getting used to it in many respects since it is so different than my Saab. Feels weird to drive to me at times since it is so different. But a great car.
