Then it sounds like his mouth finally bit him in his own ***. Most businesses that have been around for a while know better then to offer "technical help" on other people's products. It takes balls for someone to call a business "Yes, I decided to pay your competitor for the product instead of giving you the money--but now can you take up your time asking technical questions". Once again, it comes back to "When you purchase a product from someone, you're purchasing their technical assitance--whatever that may be worth". Unfortunately today, a lot of people will buy from the guy down the street who's willing to make little-to-no profit on the part in order to whore the stuff out. That's fine, but don't expect those people with the knowledge to step up to the plate later and bail you out if you have a problem.spec-v5150 wrote:How long have you been around?? I don't know what other boards you frequent, but you musn't have read/seen full story. Basically Night called out and bashed another company for not giving out information on the swap. He said that info should be free. NO matter whom you buy from. The I guess the thread starter emailed him and when he told thim where he was getting his engine from, he told him wouldnt/couldnt help. I dont know the whole story, so I cant fully comment on it. Night was cool to me, but my situation was different because I was going to get my swap from him. I DO know that he said theat info should be free to the community.
Quote » Besides.....heavy throttle has a great FAQ on the SR20 swap and they dont sell it. It is posted for everyone to see and they still get business. No matter what services you offer or dont offer, if you do GOOD business, you will get results. There is no reason to charge for info on the RB swap. I wont help you because you arent getting your engine from me sounds retarded. Besides enough people have done it where there is no need to ask these businesses now, especially if they are going to be like that.
Then there should be no complaints when a business doesn't want you tying up their phone lines and taking up their time (when they could be doing work to be making money). If the info is already out there to be found, then there's no excuse to call someone anyway.
While your impressions of this are idealistic, they're not realistic. If you open up your own shop, you'll realize that once you start doing "free tech advice" (especially on other people's products), you'll be sick of taking 20 phone calls a day instead of making money to cover your overhead--word of mouth "Hey! Call this guy! He helped me for free!" gets around quickly.
But hey, what do I know? :rolleyes
Quote » I asked all my questions from people who have done it. And in turn will help others after I do mine. And furthermore I dont think he is whining. Do a search on some of the threads Night has posted on. He is ALWAYS saying how people can email or call him on his cell phone for info on the swap. Those statements and this post contradict each other. So how is that whining????
Although "Night" pretty much made his own bed, the guy was "whining" that he called someone for technical advice on someone else's product and got shot down--claiming that "I guess this is the way you guys are", and that the VW community isn't like this (another misconception).
I deal with, and have friends at some of the largest tuners in the US for several makes of cars, (no, this isn't "bragging", just giving support to my statement..) and I don't know of any who will sit there and openly offer technical advice on a competitors product. Good "customer" support is just that--taking care of *YOUR* customers, not picking up someone else's slack (the original vendor that the part was purchased from).
