Hi guys,

I have been looking for a 240 for a while now and I think I may have found one that I want. Carfax is clean and the car looks immaculate except for the steering wheel.

I've noticed this on lots of S14's. The stock steering wheel looks lumpy and isn't smooth... like the airbag has been deployed or something. Here are some pics of the car:

Is it just sun damage or what?

If you don't see what I'm talking about here is a comparison with some other cars I found...

Weird thread of the day?

Nevermind, somebody told me it was just sun damage. Don't lynch me.

I'd just check it out carefully ifi were you. Looks straight though. The big thing is the title as long as it's clean you'll be good. Lots of people do under the table repairs on vehicles. Looks like the airbag is screwy though. I have an s14 and mine is smooth. You can't see the verticle line at all. Just get an after market wheel and call it good if it seems straight.

idk about that lumpiness, but they all end up with the squiggly butt crack eventually.

The wheel from my S14. It barely has the crack. I still have it too, its sitting in a box in my garage.

Well I looked at the car today and it was fine except for a few dings here and there. The front bumper was missing some brackets where it attaches to the fender like it had been hit at the front and got splayed out. Car also tracked to the right and the brakes roared a bit.

The steering wheel still concerns me as it was lumpy as s*** like the last pic in my topic post and there was a gap at the top.

Does anybody know what happens when the airbag deploys? Does it break out Incredible Hulk style and crack the cover or does the cover hinge open?

The cover splits across the center.

Damn, that's one ugly wheel. Wonder why they do that?

But it isn't only the center, its irregular bumps/other such weirdness on the whole thing.

If anybody knows how the airbag actually deploys this would be solved?

It should open like a T. With the line that says SRS being the top, and a verticle line down the middle. At least the one I saw in the wrecking yard was like that. It does go through the cover at pre thinned lines. However I imagine it could blow the whole cover off if somthing malfunctioned. ( Which never happens on Nissans.)

My airbag has the same butt crack. When the airbag deploys, it breaks through the cover and the cover would be split. There's no fixing that. I would be more concerned with gap at the top. The tabs at the top of the cover are probably broken and the cover is coming off. Mine did that and the cover fell off in my lap when turning one day.

I may have the only steering wheel without the butt crack. Haha. Got to love cars owned by old timers.
