Hey guys, im new to this, i made this account some time ago but i dont really come on here to write, matter of fact this might be my 2nd time only anyways, I have this problem, i know when you go to the KA-T forums theyll tell you that there better then the SRs but i know what both motors can do but my question is...... Do all of you have have the SR20DETs, are your motors all breaking down for some reason or are they pretty well running motors. I have a 93 Hatch and i really really really want an SR20DET but my friend says that there always breaking down. I live in New Mexico and there are only like 3 ppl who have them in my city and well on of them is always parked because the dude is in Germany and well the other 2 i never see around. The other two my friend knows and he says that the reason why i dont see them around is because there always brokem down, now i dont know whether to believe him or not. I sometimes think he tell me this only so i dont get one since he doesnt have one, if anyone knows any truth to this PLEASE LET ME KNOW, i dont really want to turbo the KA24DE but i also dont want my SR20 to just sit there. Anything will help guys thanks.

92 240SX with Redtop (Came w/ 65k~miles)

Been driving this for 6months now. It is my daily driver. Engine started up on first turn. No major problems other than issue with IAC (needs to be cleaned\replaced) every now and then.

Generally, no, there is no truth at all that SRs break down more than anything else. It's just like any other motor, if you treat it good it will treat you good. However, you are buying a motor that may have been abused, mistreated, or not used for a long period of time. If you don't do any prep work to the motor when you get it, then you might have problems with it. At the very least I would change all of the gaskets and the plugs, change the oil etc.. If you have more time and money I would bust it open and look at the internals, change the head gasket to a metal quality gasket. Point is, you don't know how the engine was used/abused in Japan so you don't really know what you are getting until you work with the motor. But after you do the work to it, the motor will treat you right.

I was originally going to go KA-T but there are just so much more little problems you have to deal with and I will bet my money that SR would be more reliable than a KA-T both with stock bottome end.

Damn 89 240hatch that front clip really is nice, thats one of the cleanest ones that ive seen on the net. i see that you run a 14.1 With a bone stock sr20det with the exception of a FMIC and BOV what 1/4 mile times does a usual 240sx run?? I know its hard to tell since it depends on where that particular person is located but on an average do you know??

my clip came from osaka!

i think theyre the type of people that only hook u up if they know or like you.ross prolly gives osaka pretty good busines so osaka gives him good products.

Sold my recent silver coupe that has had the same sr for 4 yrs now. Daily driven and raced during the summer at the drag strips. Only time it's on jack stands or something is when it's getting upgrades.

I'll help disspell this rumor also. As long as it is running properly and well maintained, it will run just as reliable as the KA while being turbo in it's stock form. (it's built for it) Usually people are breaking down due to running the piss out of it, inproper timing, fuel problems like running a lot of boost but not upgrading the fuel pump or injectors. If you keep researching and find out what is recommended, you'll be fine.

I ordered my sr20det blacktop swap from Heavy Throttle and received it last year around this time in May. I've been daily driving it for the past year with a lead foot, you can't resist it. Anyways, i've got just over 25,000 miles on it without any major problems.
