Tried a search and didn't come up with a thread that had this specific situation... I want to install an integrated iPod interface in my new '08 Altima sedan. It has the Bose 6CD unit and XM.

Will the official Nissan unit work with this config? And if so, anyone know where I can find instructions on disassembling the dash to install it?

I also have been looking for the iPod Interface for my 2008 Altima Sedan with Bose 6-CD and XM radio. I have not had any luck.

Looks like these guys might have something:

http://www.nissanipod.com

But they haven't answered my query for details yet.

as long as you dont have the Nav you should be able to get the ipod interface right from your dealer

I have contacted http://www.leeparts.com and apparently the following is available for 2008 Altima, total cost $235.00:

Nissan Altima iPod Interface 2007-2008 With Factory Installed Satellite Radio 999U7-ST002, 999U7-VT000 and 999U7-VT001.

I spoke with someone in the parts department and apparently it will work with all iPods and allow full functionality thru the radio and steering wheel controls.

Has anyone used these components and do they work?

if someone buys these parts and installs themselves they should do a write-up with pics to keep the rest of us from spending the money on labor

What I'm trying to figure out is that the NissanIpod.com folks sell this with an additional wiring harness they say you need to mount the adapter in the front of the car if you have XM satellite nav. Yet the Leeparts.com page makes it look like all you need is the interface.

I'll take pictures of the install if I end up doing this. If I save ya'll money on installation, you'll all PayPal me $10 for doing a good, illustrated writeup, right?

I believe the wiring harnesses are 999U7-VT000 and 999U7-VT001, and they are in the each in the $30-40 price range.

The 999U7-ST002 is the actual iPod Interface which gets placed in the glovebox or dash compartment, and that goes for around $160.

I am assuming that NissanIpod.com will send all components for the front installation package.

I don't have have the Nav system. From the reading I've done, it appears that you can install the iPod interface in just about every combo of Altimas except those with Nav systems, sorry to say.

My dealer quoted me $175 on the interface and $30 each for the two cables. A bit more than the mail order place quoted uptopic, but then I can just go there if I have issues. And having had to rip my Mazda 6's dash apart twice to replace problematic iPod interfaces, I don't mind paying a bit extra for that convenience.

You can order the parts alone, or get your dealer to do the install. Won't be cheap to have them do the install, but then the entire thing would be warranteed.

i called up the parts department at my Nissan dealer yesterday and he said he had to call Nissan on this one and get back to me.....he got back to me today and said he has Nissan run my VIN number to see what i needed inorder for the ipod interface to work and they told him the same stuff that was listed above in this post. the parts guy at the dealership said that it doesnt matter whether or not you have a nav system....i onyl matters if you have factory satellite radio installed in your car, because he said thats what they use to plug in the interface.

Success!

I ordered the parts from Leeparts.com (got dinged with at Cdn Customs), got the unit and harnesses installed yesterday and am able to play the iPod thru the Bose radio (with Sat). I still haven't figured out how to move around the menus with the radio and steering wheel controls, but I have navigated thru some menus. I will need to study the guide and try and find out how to do it with the radio. But it works and sounds great!

The guide is pretty useless.

Basically, you use the buttons to the left of the display to navigate the menu modes (Playlist, Artist, Album, etc.). When you get to the one you want, you must quickly (a few seconds) press the FF/REW button on the right side of the display down to select that mode. Then you go back to the left button to scroll through the entries, and again, press the right button down to select.

Not intuitive, and scrolling through long lists sucks. I suggest creating playlists for the items you want to access most often, as you'll have a shorter list of those.

The audio quality on the iPod interface is awesome, as are features like it pausing the song/podcast while you take a call. But the user interface really stinks.

I had the dealer do the install, partially because I couldn't find any good info on how to disassemble the 2008 dash.

Thanks for the info. It is not intiutive about the controls. It could offer more feedback on the radio display. But it is awesome to be able to plug the iPod in the adapter, close the glovebox, and listen to the tunes using the radio to control the iPod. And it sounds GREAT!

I too had the dealer install the adapter. They had to remove several panels around the passenger door and footwell to be able to remove the glovebox, to be able to get at the radio.

Thanks again for your instructions!

I just installed the Ipod kit for my 08 Bose system. It all works great but after I disconnect the Ipod and go back to XM, I have only eight letters that show for the PAD display. I removed the kit and reconnected back to the stock connections and it displays correctly. Is this what eveyone is getting? I know it is a small thing but it will drive me nuts.

Captsoto,

I had my Ipod interface installed at my dealership yesterday and now have the same problem with my display and satellite radio. I agree that it is frustrating. Were you ever able to find a solution?

No but I talked to a dealer thats sells the kit and he said that he has sold a bunch and never heard of this problem. Also it seemed to work right after I had it installed, but the next time I plugged in the ipod it was doing it again.

Has anyone heard any updates on this issue? I have the Bose 6CD XM Nav and am dying to get the thing to work with my iphone in a tidy way. Cables all over the place is a pain and I've still not found a good workaround. I'd love to have a dock to charge my iphone in the ashtray that can hide away when not in use, have it be line-in quality, have the mp3 track data show up on the nav/radio screen and be controlled by the steering wheel controls. Is that asking for too much? ;0)

I called Dice a month back and they said they couldn't release anything but they "might be working on something". Perhaps some more calls from folks in our situation might get them going. I know I'll be calling back again.

Man I love my Altima.

Same here, man...

I bought mine back in July? The dealer went on this rant about how cool it looked, the iPod display on the nav system? I made the mistake of signing the lease BEFORE I got the iPod installed..

I'm so disappointed. That was the final selling point on the friggin CAR!!!!

on NissanClub.com we heard that this company had something that would work.

http://www.neocaraudio.com/

The company was called, and they confirmed they have something that would work with the Nav system. They say you have to disable the XM, and it plugs into the XM port on the back of the headunit. Their website just isnt updated to show that its available for our cars. Noone over on NissanClub has the money to invest in one right now. If anyone on here wants to give it a shot, the company said if it doesnt work, they would give a full refund. Someone give it a try....our problems might be solved!!!!

so i made a few phone calls last night to figure this out.

1st phone call - to Neo Car Audio (619.704.0690) - The sales rep i spoke to told me they didnt have anything available for us yet, but referred me to iCarKits who sells their stuff and might be able to help me more.

2nd phone call - to iCarKits (800.983.3152) - The sales rep first referred me to the Peripheral iSimple Media Gateway for NI2 ($180), but when i informed him that i had the Nav system, he said it wouldnt work. He then directed me towards the Neo Pro Link - PODNIS(3IJ) ($250), and said that it should work as long as i have XM. He also mentioned (which it also says on the website) that it works with all 6 CD radios, excludes HEV Works with the following VIN# Smyrna production greater than 15606 Canton production greater than 440388. I asked why this would matter and he said that the different plants actually have different radios that they install in their cars(*confused*). He said that there isnt one specific radio that Nissan uses (*even more confused*). He then proceeded to tell me that the Neo Pro Link - PODNIS(3IJ) is an adapter made by Nissan (doesnt sound promising so far), which i was confused about since it has the "Neo" name attached to it. I asked him if i bought it, and it didnt work if i could return it for a full refund, in which he told me yes.

Well i bought the Neo Pro Link - PODNIS(3IJ). Even though it sounds like the same thing that Nissan sells (and doenst work for those of us with the Nav's), i bought it knowing that if it didnt work i could return it for a full refund. Its worth a shot, right?

My car was manufactured at the Symrna plant and has a VIN number greater than 440388, so thats a good start. i guess we'll see when it gets here.

Im going to meet with another member from NissanClub.com (kamikazeH20mln from Baltimore) to get his help with the install, since ive never taken my Nav system out and he has. Sounds like we'll be doing this next friday 11/21 since both Kami and I have off (yay for use or lose vacation time!!). We havent decided on where we're going to meet yet, but when we figure it out ill post it on here so if any one else in the area wants to join if they have that day off.

Nice. Looking forward to the results. Any idea what this means to those of us that use the XM? Does this override or will it simply take the place of?

it takes the place of the XM.....the ipod interface plugs in the back of the head unit where the XM module plugs in, so with the ipod interface plugged in, the XM module will be unplugged.
