According to the Wall Street Journal and a few other sources today, it has been made official that the iPhone will finally go on sale with Sprint in October. They will be getting the next generation iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4 as well.

Excellent news for Sprint and their users, this should make a huge difference for them. I'm very excited about the news and I'll definitely be picking up one when I'm due for an upgrade early next year :mike

The EVO is an excellent device man, I love mine and have been very happy with it, but I will have a hard time choosing when it's time to upgrade. I'll probably get the iPhone though, since I've never had one myself.

Virgin Mobile will get the iPhone 4G in 2019, and at $25/mo I'm okay with that. :)

RIM should be somewhat concerned but they have their niche cornered. This is primarily a threat to HTC.

That's not a good reason to get one. you'll be signing a two year contract just because you haven't had one!

if you want one you should pick up an ipod touch 4th gen for around $150 on CL. it's the same as an iphone 4

Lolz at the iOS hate, don't worry though, I still don't get all the hype. I just think its a great business move for Sprint, but realistically I'll probably stick with an EVO again in the end. It offers more features that I use, that iOS doesn't offer and I like to be able to modify it easily. Now I will at least consider the iPhone, because I do enjoy my iPad quite a bit, but it'll probably end up being the wife that gets one instead, because she hates her Android phone immensely.

I still despise iPhones for the fact that iOS is so dumbed down and limited, I can't even change the crappy keyboard that they give you with it and jail breaking them doesn't really help much either. I don't really care so much on my iPad, because I want it to be simple, but from my phone I don't care for it. To give credit where credit is due though, iOS is still a great platform that pretty much anyone can pick up and use, which is why it sells so well and everybody buys them. I just don't need something simple myself, I pick mobile devices based on their support community and their hacking community, so Android is the winner their right now. Ok I'm done now :gapteeth:

Agreed. I think it is a great business step for sprint.

The iPhone has become the go to, fad phone, of the stupid sheep masses. It is overly simplified, and purely aimed at the sheek hip crowd. I dont want anything to do with them. This goes along with apple's mantra as of late. Why would I want a computer/phone/media player/tablet, that I can't modify, or improve or change the battery for goodness sakes. Apple used to stand against the evil that was Microsoft, now they are one in the same.

What android phone is she using?

I've seen a lot of new users, not talking about you, have their first experience with the crappy androids that are free directly from the carrier.

She's got one of the freebies. It's the LG Optimus S, which is an ok phone, but it's a bit limited for her tastes. It locks up on her constantly and always runs out of space, even with apps on the SD card. I'm planning on giving her my EVO when I get something new, then i'll get her something else soon after if she wants it. My EVO is top notch, but I got a cheaper Samsung to being with and it was utter garbage, so i'm right there with ya on the cheaper ones. I just didn't think it would be an issue for her, since she doesn't do a ton of stuff on her phone and it was fine when she first got it.

Totally agreed there. Now I do disagree slightly on the tablet, but just due to personal preference. After doing my research and testing out quite a few tablets, i've found that I do prefer for my tablet to be simple. Mainly because I just want to be able to pick it up and start browsing, playing a game, watch a video, or whatever. The iPad does this better than anything that i've laid my hands on and that's not from a fanboi perspective, that's from a geek perspective :gapteeth:

I'm still not a fan of Android tablets at all, the battery life is sub-par and I just don't love their tablet version of the OS yet.

My other issue is their pricing point, since most GOOD Android tablets are priced very close to the iPad. I think this was HP's downfall too with the Touchpad... stepping into an iPad market, expecting to get the same amount of money for theirs. You can eventually, but if you want to sell them, you should sell it at a much lower pricing point to begin with. Most people see the iPad as the superior device in that market, while that's not entirely true, they have to convince people that theirs is better. Selling at a similar pricing point isn't going to help with that, because just like I did: "Oh, so the Samsung Galaxy Tab(or Motorola Xoom, HTC Scribe, ect) is the same price as the iPad? Well I think I would rather have the iPad, it has more apps and better support."

In other words, its slick and easy to use?

I'm not fond of the fanatics who think Apple can do no wrong, but its good hardware and excellent software, and it's what the rest of the industry has emulated.

Before the iPhone, Android was going to look and function like the Blackberry (You ever wonder why older Android phones have a trackball? Look up screen shots of early Android builds). The announcement of the iPhone changed things for Google.

I kind of miss life before cell phones. My very competent LG Optimus is sitting in the map pocket of the Cadillac (or maybe the ash tray, I cant remember). I'll check it tomorrow or something. Its been there for a couple days and I'm sure the battery is dead.

I think I'm starting to get bored with gadgets. I used to obsessively reply to customers as soon as possible with my Blackberry. Now, I just wait until I get home and deal with them later. With the computer, I'm seated and prepared to deal with incoming communication. When I'm away from the computer, its nice to have space and relief. Even sitting on the can with a book is a nice moment to disconnect.

What the iPhone does, it does well. The thing that drives me nuts is many iStuff proponents I hear talking (or read) just plain make s*** up. I've been told Android phones suck because they don't get updates, which is beyond preposterous. I hear iPhone owners constantly slamming the stock Android browser, when it's Android that offers dozens of excellent alternatives to stock, and iOS that restricts you to the official one, forcing developers to produce stuff like Firefox Home to live on top of it in order to improve it. My favorite one, though, was that the iPhone runs Mac OS X, which is sort of like telling everyone your Evo runs Natty Narwhal. At least make an effort to know WTF you're talking about before panning the opposition.

I also get sick of hearing that iOS has "more apps" simply because idiot people can't understand that app markets aren't the sole source of software. Do you go to the Windows Market for PC programs? Do you go to the Palm Market to buy PalmOS programs? Do you go to the DOS market to buy DOS programs? Do you go to the Linux Market to buy Linux programs (ubuntu marketplace and its ilk notwithstanding)? No. You buy that s***. From retailers or direct download providers or any of a vast number of potential sources. ONLY on iOS are you restricted to an official market, and somehow Apple's marketing geniuses have convinced the world that that limitation is actually a strength. I'd guess 1/3 of the 200-someodd apps on my G2 are non-market apps. Everything from utilities to games to stuff that's not even "apps" (I HATE THAT APP HAS BECOME A BUZZWORD AND I FEEL DIRTY EVERY TIME I USE IT) like scripting to fine-tune memory management or processor speed. All from anywhere but the market.

It'd be neat to meet an open-minded iStuff owner, instead of one who thinks the competition is all complete useless s***, despite not knowing their ARM from a 1/4'' phone jack.

Its a 'strength' depending on how you look at it because it forces the user base and developers into one organized meeting place. I'm pretty sure Android has more available software, but developers will always make an iOS version available because it generates more revenue or more downloads.

From a consumer perspective, I dont know how that's a strength since its a clear limitation.

But again, I dont know where you guys are meeting these people out in the real world who say these things or actively talk about their telephones. I like to talk to people about their cars or the weather. Phones are so boring.

Will said Iphone have the same simultaneous multi-tasking capabilities on Sprint that it has on ATT, as far as I know the Verizon model can't multi task because of the GSM network that Verizon and current Sprint models use (though Nextels and some of Sprint's older phones still use sim cards). If it can't multi-task then I'm not interested and will upgrade to the EVO that has the slide out keypad, if it can multi-task then I'll settle my upgrade debate by which one is cheaper. Don't really care about 3D on a cell phone, does not interest me.

Do wish that MS would make a Window's 7 phone that's actually worth a damn. I like Zune better than Itunes.

Verizon and Sprint's CDMA network are unrelated to the iPhone's multitasking.
