Hello everyone. I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. My old car kinda got burned up pretty good, so I'll be in the market for a new one soon lol. Umm, so yeah. That's about it. From my past experiences with this site, I know that I'll be welcomed into the community  .

My old car ( a '90 hatchback) caught on fire the other day. The damage isn't too bad, but since I called my insurance company, they want to total the car out. I'm not 100% sure what caused it, just glad I got out before things got really bad. It started at my exhaust and was heading for my gas tank, so I think it might have been caused by a faulty catalytic converter (?). But I want to pick up another 240, preferably a coupe.

faulty cat won't cause a fire. my guess is there was a fuel leak and the heat of the exhaust ignited it.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread, but wanted to update everyone on the car situation. I just picked up a 1987 Toyota Supra N/A with 143,xxx miles this morning. This thing is a MAJOR step up from my old 240sx. It's white with burgundy cloth interior and power everything. Plans for the car are going to be suspension, then hopefully a swap at the start of 2011 if the holidays don't clean out my bank account. I'm thinking 7mgte or if I can afford it, a 2jzgte, but if I have to hold out for a while, that's totally cool too. I know some people might wonder why I don't just go with the 1j over the 7m, but I don't want to lose any of my displacement.

Nice. I'm a big toyota fan. Toyota cars have always been good to my family members.

If everything goes as planned I will be selling my s14 for a sc300 after I get done with my Cummins trainning..

Hi!

I'm new to this forum as well and have never owned a 240 but am looking to as I've been driving a slow crapbox (98 Mazda Protege) far too long, more out of necessity than anything which has made me die a little inside. I want to learn to work on my own car and be able to do my own modifications to the motor and whatnot and have heard the 240 is a great car to do that with. My first car was an '88 300ZX which made me partial to Nissans and I want to get back to owning one, just not one that is quite so heavy.

A girl wanting to learn how to work on cars (that isn't being pressured into it by her bf) is a pretty rare thing. Many-a-NICO relationship have started with a post like yours ;)

NICO has a ton of information that can be viewed by using the search button, but don't be shy to post any questions you might have. There is also a "newbie" thread in the 240 section dedicated specifically to new members and any type of question.

Well, my fiance is a car person too, he's into RX-7s but I've always wanted to learn to work on my own car and the cars I've had up until this point weren't anything I've been excited or dedicated to enough to actually want to work on them. I'm also a little competitive and what would be better than smoking my fiance at the track with something I built with my own two hands? Bragging rights? Yes!
