Domestic car companies make good cars.

Import car companies make good cars.

The enthuisists "make" great cars.

Gots a 240 now

Hey, I haven't seen it in here yet so here's my .02. INSURANCE! Many of us are under the magical age of 25 or have points on our licenses and have to insure our vehicles ourselves. My insurance on my 240 is dirt cheap, and I'm hoping to keep it that way, whereas if I invest in anything that has more than 200 factory HP and want full-coverage insurance on it(other factors, like year excluded) I'll be paying like $2Kyr instead of like 600. Now, if I choose to dump another 500 into an NO2 kit, bam! I still have another 900/yr to play with for those unexpected car repairs or beer since I'm in college. Seems like a smart deal to me.

But why would you spend 500$ on an N02 kit when you have 1400$? That's enough for coilovers, i/h/e and cams, or a custom turbo kit (assuming you install and piece it together yourself).

I got to drive my GF's dad's 98 GT 5psd. Handled bad, brakes sucked, kinda stuffy, big and heavy, shifter was odd, and the clutch was really stiff. not what i like to drive since im used to my 240, BUT damn did it have power. didnt take much to get moving. i dont think i revved past 3500RPMs and i was doing 50 in the top of 2nd. maybe, i dont remember, all i know was that it was fast in the straight line and had pretty good power. but i know the thing will be falling apart in a few years. a guy at my old school drove a white formula. the thing is pretty damn fast, but its a POS. falling apart, stuff broken, needs work. and thats cause its not top quality stuff.

The automatic trans in those cars (200-4r) was the worst ever! the GM 10 bolt can't handle big power either. It has huge potential, but so do most imports. 5.0s are played out, over done and dated looking. my 240, $1700 running strong with 130K. Try and find a decent 5.0 that a teenager hasn't f*ed up for that price.

Hmmm, there are a lot of GN's with stock rear ends that run into the tens, so I think they handle the power pretty well. The 200-4R isn't bad until it comes time to rebuild it. My dad's lasted 100k and shifted like a demon until it went out. Mine shifted the same way until I wiped my first gear clutches with a Precision TE44 turbo. I would say the stock 700R4 was worse and that it's tough to beat a TH 400 for drag racing and mega power.

The Turbo Regals are more expensive, but then they're also collectible and actually worth money. Same for the TTA. They are also not cheap to mod once you get past the basics. Oh, and there are plenty of TR's right here in Indiana that would make a GT-R look like a girl's car in a drag race.

For the record, I used to drive around with a "no 5.0" sticker on the back of my T-Type. Really pissed the Mustang guys off when I showed it to 'em. hehe... :icesangel
