No, you're just making another bully.sbird1 wrote:I'm teaching my children anti-bullying techniques at an early age. A bloody lip will stop any kind of bullying that occurs. Violence IS the answer.
Teaching a kid to stick up for him/herself is not making another bully. What's wrong with popping some little a$$ in the lip for making fun of your awesome Star Wars water bottle?Dattebayo wrote:

Is hitting someone just because they made fun of you a good idea to teach a kid? No...Jesda wrote:Self-defense vs. AggressionDattebayo wrote:Because you don't know if they're gonna like it too much or not. And that's terrible parenting.
If you're too dumb to explain the concept to a kid, don't breed.
Bullies don't just say mean things. They beat up the ones too meek to defend themselves.Dattebayo wrote:

Your kids will grow up to be hipsters. They will cost you a fortune to fund their faux-poor lives well into their late 30s.Dattebayo wrote:It's still not an ok think to just tell your kid to do... That's a pretty tight line to walk.
You can tell a kid being bullied to protect himself from aggressors with self-defense. And you can explain to the kid the difference between defending yourself and being a bully.Dattebayo wrote:You really can't just tell them to go hit some kid, seriously. That's the kind of thing the kid has to decide for themselves.

Why this baffles you is beyond me.

Bullies tend to go for easy targets that take the abuse. Its low-cost self-esteem.krash wrote:And the bully will get the s*** beat out of him.ADDirishboy wrote:[the other children will see that "Hey, Jimmy over there stood up for himself and now he doesn't get picked on every day." and choose to do the same for themselves.
You're not teaching them to stand up for themselves when you tell them to hit someone for bad-mouthing them or making fun of them. What you are teaching them with that is known as escalation. Why you don't understand THIS baffles me.ADDirishboy wrote:Seriously, what is wrong about telling your child to stand up for himself?
