I hate to say this but from looking at interior pics, the interior of the y33 seems to be nothing more than a badged up maxima.

the interior is nothing close to that of a LS400-LS430.

what u guys think ? am I just assuming too much with pictures ?

It's a personal choice. If it bothers you, don't get one.

Been discussed before, by the way.

I've never been a fan of the big, clunky shifter knob. The rest is OK. I like the G50 interior better. Maybe you should wait until the 1st gen M45 drop in price and pick one of those up. Similar style outside but nicer interior and better performance. Just my 2 cents.

The interior of the Y33 is among the nicest I've been in, I just love it. Overall fit and finish, top quality materials, awesome seats, nice fat steering wheel, great (for stock) Bose stereo. I've been in some pretty nice cars, and driven some pretty nice cars. Not much leaves me wanting more in my Q.

I love the big clunky shifter, with my right arm resting on the center arm rest, my hand fits across the top just perfectly. It's slightly angled too, so it fits the natural shape of your hand to a T.

+1.The Lexus is boxy and stiff inside. The leather isn't as soft as the Q.

Meh, that does absolutely nothing for me. I put mine in D and that's where it stays. If you floor it, it holds gears to redline, no need to manually shift. If your going 80 and want to quickly downshift and pass, just touch the Overdrive button on the shifter, and bingo, you're in 3 and can blast past someone, and just touch the button again, your back in 4. Likewise if you want to down shift, just hit OD button, it's instantaneous.

But like Brian said above, it's all personal preference.

You do get more car for the money with a Y33 compared to a Lexus, and the savings have to come from somewhere. The interior isn't as sturdy and european as the G50 or the LS, but its pleasant enough to deal with everyday.

I generally feel the same way about late 90s Cadillac interiors. They aren't as tight or trim and some materials are obviously cheap, but they're attractive and comfy.

I'm fond of the G50's gated shifter. Driving a G20 across the country this year I didnt mind using the OD button for on-demand downshifts, but its not as enjoyable as rowing the gears.

The second-gen LS400 is "more" car, but its also a lot more money.

ya if you look at it that way.

but yeah the Y33 is A TON OF CAR FOR THE MONEY. I can not believe how low in price they can be bought for.

the crazy thing is; when fixed up VIP style the proper way, they can look mighty damn expensive and that is no joke.

in the land of the usual bmw 3-5 series, the benz E class, etc....why go that route when you can be original, different, stunning, and more JAW DROPPING with a Y33 vip car.

i think 1-2 years ago when they were going for over 10 grand for a decent 97/98 it wasnt really worth it, but now since theyre had fairly easily for 6-8grand in equal shape...

if you never had a gated shifter you wouldnt know what your missing..

in the lexus GS that I was in the interior was more visually appealing but was not as well thought out and well designed... Same goes for the Y33...

The difference is nissan doing what they wanted to vs what what everyone else was doing (and they were doing in the lesser models)

Without a doubt the most difficult thing for me to adapt.

I much prefer the gated shifter to the button to nix overdrive in town.

I disagree.

My last car WAS a maxima and it in no way comes even close to how much nicer the Y33 interior is.

You need to actually see the interior in person to appreciate it, I thought the same thing when I saw a picture of the interior.

You'd think that L.A. being the LARGEST car market in the US, if not the world (more Porsche / Ferrari's / etc. sold here than any where else) that we'd have some of these "6-8 grand" Y33's, but the ONLY ones I have EVER seen in that imaginary price range are either A. salvage title cars, or B. STARTING prices at auctions. A 1998 Y33 Q with under 100k in excellent condition is still at the least 10K here.

Sure, you can find 97-98's with 200k for 6-8 grand, but I wouldn't touch that with a stick. I think I ought to sell my Q to see how much I could get for it.

not true

check out autotrader.com with los angeles area code 90005.

there are alot in the 6-7 thousand range with around 100,000 miles non salvaged. I have yet to go look at em but they are there.

but forget the 97-98, 1999 is the bread and butter.

Please, oh God, don't turn this thread into another stupid Y33/G50 debate. I spelled God with a capital "G", so you know its an actual divine request.

I don't understand the phrase "bread and butter" outside the context of automotive manufacturing, when its used to refer to basic but vital cars like the Camry, Impala, and Accord...?

if it doesnt exist in LA, it certainly doesnt exist anywhere else!!

I will agree that 99-01 is the nicest of the Y33 generation, lots of nice little additions that arent much in of themselves but add up to make the car nicer....

Well, that does it. My Q is officially for sale, 16k OBO.

I just searched a 50 mile radius on Autotrader of 90717 (South Bay) and once again the only cars that were 6-7k were at "Public Motors" which are AUCTIONS. Those are starting prices. There's a 1997 w/ 129k for 8900 though.

1998 @ Toyota Santa Monica = 129951998 @ random used lot = 119952001 @ random used = 17999.

I stand by my statements.

I've been doing ALOT of 97-01 Q45 pricing lately, so come this Spring I'll be well aware of what the market bears and how long some of these have been on the market.

That said, you can find 120-150k 97-98's for less than $9k, have seen even one or two for $6500. The more desired 99-01's will run you closer to $12k with 85-100k on the clock. Super high mile units can be had for alot less. Note: I do not count FL, TX (title worries) or the CA auction cars.

there were a few at 102,000 miles for 7500 bucks. Some at 80,000 miles for about 8500 bucks. A few a 65.000 miles for around 9000 bucks.

there were about 7 auction cars TOTAL. I'm gonna check out the auction cars to.

i got my 97 t with ~100k for 6800$, seemed like a good price.

also i dont see why this is so much better than a q interior? seems basically the same to me. ive seen dudes driving lexuses around at night, with that super bright *** white gauge cluster lighting, so gross, would hurt my eyes to look at it for an extended period

I love electroluminescent gauges, and the light doesn't glow right in your eyes. It shines through the fibers that draw the image so its quite soothing.

Lexus sometimes takes credit for it, but it actually can be found on Chrysler Imperials in the early 60s.

Don't forget about dreaded timing belt on LS400. it adds a lot of money to up keep and maintenance. Cheers!

Hey man he's actually right. Maybe you misunderstood what he said. He said 90% of the cars at the TOP, not the whole two pages. But it's not really 90% it was 7out of 8 cars which is 87.5%
