yea but this nico forum search kinda sucks. I've tried only to get lousy search results.maxnix wrote:It's a personal choice. If it bothers you, don't get one.
Been discussed before, by the way.
Meh, that does absolutely nothing for me. I put mine in D and that's where it stays. If you floor it, it holds gears to redline, no need to manually shift. If your going 80 and want to quickly downshift and pass, just touch the Overdrive button on the shifter, and bingo, you're in 3 and can blast past someone, and just touch the button again, your back in 4. Likewise if you want to down shift, just hit OD button, it's instantaneous.elwesso wrote:i really wish they didnt get rid of the gated shifter... If i got a Y33 id miss it big time, i use mine all the time!
ya if you look at it that way.Jesda wrote:You do get more car for the money with a Y33 compared to a Lexus, and the savings have to come from somewhere. The interior isn't as sturdy and european as the G50 or the LS, but its pleasant enough to deal with everyday.
I generally feel the same way about late 90s Cadillac interiors. They aren't as tight or trim and some materials are obviously cheap, but they're attractive and comfy.
I'm fond of the G50's gated shifter. Driving a G20 across the country this year I didnt mind using the OD button for on-demand downshifts, but its not as enjoyable as rowing the gears.
The second-gen LS400 is "more" car, but its also a lot more money.
Without a doubt the most difficult thing for me to adapt.elwesso wrote:i really wish they didnt get rid of the gated shifter... If i got a Y33 id miss it big time, i use mine all the time!
I disagree.Qfortyfiver wrote:I hate to say this but from looking at interior pics, the interior of the y33 seems to be nothing more than a badged up maxima.
the interior is nothing close to that of a LS400-LS430.
what u guys think ? am I just assuming too much with pictures ?
You'd think that L.A. being the LARGEST car market in the US, if not the world (more Porsche / Ferrari's / etc. sold here than any where else) that we'd have some of these "6-8 grand" Y33's, but the ONLY ones I have EVER seen in that imaginary price range are either A. salvage title cars, or B. STARTING prices at auctions. A 1998 Y33 Q with under 100k in excellent condition is still at the least 10K here.elwesso wrote:i think 1-2 years ago when they were going for over 10 grand for a decent 97/98 it wasnt really worth it, but now since theyre had fairly easily for 6-8grand in equal shape...

Sure, you can find 97-98's with 200k for 6-8 grand, but I wouldn't touch that with a stick. I think I ought to sell my Q to see how much I could get for it.

wow are you in denial ?Falkdesigns wrote:Well, that does it. My Q is officially for sale, 16k OBO.
I just searched a 50 mile radius on Autotrader of 90717 (South Bay) and once again the only cars that were 6-7k were at "Public Motors" which are AUCTIONS. Those are starting prices. There's a 1997 w/ 129k for 8900 though.
1998 @ Toyota Santa Monica = 129951998 @ random used lot = 119952001 @ random used = 17999.
I stand by my statements.
90% of those at the top were auctions.Qfortyfiver wrote:wow are you in denial ?
how narrow minded can u be? why would u search a 50 mile radius ?

Don't forget about dreaded timing belt on LS400. it adds a lot of money to up keep and maintenance. Cheers!Jesda wrote:You do get more car for the money with a Y33 compared to a Lexus, and the savings have to come from somewhere. Hey man he's actually right. Maybe you misunderstood what he said. He said 90% of the cars at the TOP, not the whole two pages. But it's not really 90% it was 7out of 8 cars which is 87.5%Qfortyfiver wrote:

there were a few at 102,000 miles for 7500 bucks. Some at 80,000 miles for about 8500 bucks. A few a 65.000 miles for around 9000 bucks.
there were about 7 auction cars TOTAL. I'm gonna check out the auction cars to.
