Just need to heat up the vinyl so that it forms to the contour of the piece and cut out whatever you don't want hidden.

Did you mean volume and tuner knobs?

They are removable. You will have to use some force to get them out. Then its easier to put the vinyl. The hardest thing is to trim the excessive vinyl. Just be patient

Where did you find those volume/tuner knobs? They looks great! I think they would look amazing in Robert's car with the brushed aluminum :)

I called around a few places and it looks like most are using 3M 1080 film, they are all saying that the di noc is harder to apply and best used on only flat surfaces.

3M 1080 is the one I used in that picture. I find that the 1080 is more thiner then the di noc so maybe thats why they say It's better for that application.

do you just lay vinyl offer dash and cut in or do you remove dash pieces?
also how does it work on corners without wrinkling, do you use a heat gun?

vinyl came in last night and I started to take some parts off to see if I can do it myself.

So far I have wraped 2 parts and hope to have a few more done to day.

need to see if I can take the center control panel apart :ohno: (remove everything)

"You can do it!!" How much vinyl did you buy or do you think it will take for the job? Would 2 yards be enough to get everything without really fighting it? Did you go carbon fiber or what? Ive been looking at them and im debating between the 3M anthracite carbon fiber or the new 3m brushed steel which is like a darker brushed aluminum look. Post some pics and tips as soon as you can please as Im debating doing it myself or just paying the $60-100 in labor to have someone do it for me. Has it been easy to remove the wood pieces without damage? Also did you have to use some type of primer/promoter on the wood to make it stick better, It seems like half the places ive talked to said i would need to and half said no. I dont want to ruin the wood underneath just in case i remove it down the road. Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

I ordered 3M 1080 brush steel in 3'x5' more than enough

I was able to do all the dash trim. Everything must come off. Hardest part was the center control panel, I removed all the buttons. 2nd would be the ash tray door.

I didn't need any promoter

Doors will have to wait a few days as my finger really hurt after doing all the dash parts

Wood parts are all easy to remove, hardest would be the doors.

Couldn't you do most of the pieces without removing them? Just heat it up and cut the edges slowly?

It looks better when parts are wraped completely and you don't take a chance on the vinyl shrinking with the heat over time. If it does than you'll be able to see the wood trim.

Don't get me wrong lots of pro installers are wraping parts without taking them out of the car, most are flat with no corners. Some parts can't get wraped so only the face gets done.

I would tell everyone to take the parts of and wrap it.

Painting the trim would be nice to but than you run the chance of cracking over time.

I hope to finish my doors in a few days and I'll post some pics when done.

going price around me is $300 - $350 + vinyl

It's not bad taking everything out and it's super fast puting everything back. What has hurt me the most is the pain on the corners of my finger.

This would be best by 2 people, one removes & install all the parts and the other just wraps.

It always feels good to save money :yesnod
