The Legacy GT is very sweet and I am looking at it for my next car (well down the road). I was under the impression that the horsepower rating would be 250hp and 250ft/lb or torque.

Zero,

What I meant is that i can run very minimal boost. Less than stock for city driving and $hit, but still be able to crank it up with one dial.

UMM SUBARUS GET VERY GOOD GAS MILAGE.... THE 98 2.5RS MY COUSIN DID A STI SWAP ON GOT 22MPG ON AVERAGE, AFTER THE SWAP.

WHY DO SOME PEOPLE QUOTE CRANK RATING ON SOME CARS AND THEN COMPARE IT TO OTHER CARS WHP FIGURES?

I'll get excited about new cars again when somebody brings out a lightweight, $20-$25K, RWD 2+2 hatchback with a large-displacement (2.2-2.5L) n.a. I-4, a turbo 4, and/or a V6 available. And a six-speed. In short, a worthy successor to the S-series and the AE86.

Until then, I have no use for new cars.

Damn, 16mpg. I'm getting 21 out of my coupe and I drive it pretty hard in traffic most days now.

That's a good question. IMO, crank figures are pretty much useless these days.

Not that the numbers from Dynojet, etc. and other dynos are 100% accurate all the time, but auto manufacturers are some times a bit errrr...generous with the crank ratings on their vehicles (Mazda...ahem).

The bottom line is that I want to know how much power I'm getting to the ground, where it counts.

Either generous(Mazda) or conservative(Dodge)

as for sport compacts...there really isn't anything that interests me at the moment. i like rwd cars, prefer rwd cars, and will buy only rwd sport or sporty cars.

Pontiac Solstice? More of a pure "sports car" than sport compact, but it looks pretty sweet, and cheap too.

The Honda S2000 is another RWD roadster...getting a bit more displacement this year too, as someone else mentioned.
