i was wondering what sort of gains the altima coupe could get from a performance intake manifold..... on a Nissan Versa they got 19 WHP supposedly and they kept using the stock intake zerothread/316830

i wonder what sort of gains a 3.5se altima coupe would get. we have a much larger motor, so with exhaust and a performance intake manifold we should be capable of 300 hp to the crank or flywheel right?

yeah IM's can add some good amount of horsepower, and this is a not hard to get mod..look around sactown and you should be able to find a shop who will make one for you...you can probably get one done for about $500-$700...it'll be worth every penny

question,

isnt that one of the main differences between the 350Z's vq35de and the a/c vq35de, is that the 350 has a larger/better intake manifold

If you change the IM & Exhaust, you'll have to alter the fuel map or increase fuel somehow, otherwise you'll have an over-lean condition. I don't know if the A/C ECU can automatically compensate for a change that big.

my last question would be, do you need a CARB # for it in california to be street legal?

well...yeah...but i would just throw the stock one back on for inspection...and btw if you're gonna get something custom made the shop isnt going to send it to CARB and have it pass inspection, if it canso it wont be street legal

and didnt you remove the cats of your car? that right there isnt street legal either, but you dont have to get inspected till 2013

yaaaaa about the cat lol i did something REALLY STUPID! lol i tested my car at the track with the muffler off but with the cat ON and got a 13.9 on a really cold day. took off the cat and the muffler and ran a 14.1 on a hotter day.... didn't even think that the weather would make that big of a difference lol now after going to the track i've seen myself hit a 14.8 with the muffler OFF in really hot weather..... only cost me $20 to put the cat back on so i might just take it off again lol plus i miss how much louder my car was. but ya i was thinking about how i was getting all anal about CARB legal stuff in the past and today i was like well, its not like HEADERS, i can just put the stock IM back on and the cat back on hella easy and cheap for inspection lol

finding a shop to fab a custom intake manifold isn't going to be easy. and i truely don't believe 5 to 7 hundred is a very accurate price when including custom fabrication + installation. also, the part is not going to be quality and good luck getting the shop to back their work should it cause damage to something.

You can also get the stock IM ported/polished. Different cars though see different gains, my old cougar with the SVT IM only got 3 - 8 hp.

No you won't. My turbo runs the stock ECU @ 6 psi. The ECU handles every bit of it, and retains a flat a/f ratio across the rpm range. I changed the injectors to 440cc's, but thats because we only wanted to be running about a 70% load. You could run a 70% load on the stock injectors and still not lean out with just an Intake Manifold
