Zilla - The only way mailing the pictures will work for you is if you play DUMB an innocently send the pictures and state that you have switched back to oem. This will only work if you can send by email and avoid face to face time with the insurance agent and pray that the person is just too busy or an idiot.

It would really be dumb if you brought them the picture in person and they asked to see your car - picture in hand.

They already told you to take your car to get inspected by an insurance agent soo it doesnt seem like you would be able to get over that way.

In general I would not offer unnecessary information to the insurance company. I'm primarily referring to replacement cost here. IMO for the average lightly modded car - most of the aftermarket modifications cost less than oem to replace - so if as the result of a loss you get reimbursed at the higher factory replacement price then you have enough to replace the aftermarket part and money left over. Now if you have sunk $1000s of mods into your car - then that would be the time to seek additional insurance coverage and try to find companies that are more mod friendly.

In this case since we are talking about a NISMO part which I consider to be OEM since it is made by the factory and covered by Nissan - this part would be more expensive than the regular factory exhaust. So I would only consider disclosing this to my insurance company is if it cost considerably more than stock.

It makes sense that an insurance company might want to protect itself against liability from an inproperly installed modification - performance or not.

But the fact that this is a Nismo part would make me think it would be treated as OEM. Zilla - who did your installation? Was it a Nissan Dealer? If so you might try getting a statement from the dealer indicating that this is a factory part that is installed by the dealer and warrantied by Nissan.

Otherwise you will have to remove it and re-install it. Not sure what your mechanical skills are but exhausts aren't that hard to do yourself.

Good Luck.

Sorry for the vague statement before. What I meant was I'm gonna put the OEM exhaust back on, take some pictures, and bring the car to the insurance agent so she could see it in person, then put the Nismo back on when I get home. I put the cat-back on myself so it's not a problem for me to take it off and put it back on again. But there goes the problem; I installed it myself, so it's not professionally installed. I wasn't gonna pay some idiots at a shop or dealer hundreds of dollars to put something as simple as this, which requires no mechanical skills, just know how to turn a socket wrench.

However, I think i got it worse as I called into my insurance stating that I wanted to be annonymous and ask a few questions. They traced my number, tagged me and then told me I had to bring my car in. So I swapped everything out, brought it in, got pictures taken. And now have put everything else back on, but I'm running the risk of getting bs back if i total.. Which isnt the smartest idea at all.. but I cant help it.

I f$%#ing hate insurance. You pay them, they dont pay you.
Your agents are just being Hard a**'s. In Ontario all policies cover upto $1500 of aftermarket components. anything above $1500 that you did not pay extra to insure is at the discretion of the issuer of your policy wheather they will cover it.

some insurance companies frown on modded vehicles.. especially if the vehicle has a modded engine... which can include custom exhaust systems... cold air intakes... and severe lowering springs... like if the car is lowered or lifted more than 5 inches lol
