It was a PITA and took me a while...

I got to play with the sounds tho...

Started the car with just the cats... Sounded like crap

Started the car with just the Y pipe and coupe mid pipe.... Lets just say Next week or this weekend I am going to have an exhaust shop put a Y after the coupe resignator and two straight pipes out the back with dual outlets like the M's.

I love the way it sounded without a muffler! Nice an loud and tuned!

Back to how the new pipe is...

I think it has a better flow but it doesn't feel faster?

I think the old pipe was restricted and then at 4k rpm it would flow yet this new HR pipe doesn't have that effect, It is very linear and you just don't have a rush at 4k rpms

It feels slower but the motor feels smoother so when I look down Im going 70 and what looks like much faster!

I must be confused?

It was such a PITA that I had to take the old y pipe off with the coupe mid pipe as I had one nut that was rusted on and needed a pipe wrench to remove it!

Just glad it is done!

The Pop Charger come in on Thursday so that will be tomorrows mission lol

Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between the coupe and sedan Y pipe?

If I ever did my exhaust I'd have a muffler shop run dual pipe straight out the back with Magnaflow glasspacks!

hey man it looks like the ebay y pipe wasnt a bang for the buck mod. im getting the stillen y pipe because ive heard some good things about it. i think you have lost some torque because the new y pipe is bigger and it has lost some of its suction, because it has a bigger inlet. my recommendation would be to get test pipes or hfc/s. this will help increase the power, and the y pipe would be much more beneficial. the sound will be better as well, and with a bigger y pipe u will hear almost no raspiness. if you want i can look for a good deal and let u know if you want to buy some HFC's. . dont worry, and let me know if i can help

Im still not sure if it is just me but when you go from a 3" back to a 2.25" or what ever the coupe mid pipe is.... Something isn't right?

Ok... Funny how the story changes lol

I just got to work and on my way here The car really did seem faster. I tested it on my way here!

I now have more of a jump from 3k rpms... and by the time i get to 5k rpms it is really making more hp. If i had to put money on it I would say 5hp

I noticed that if i would put it in 3rd from a light and start 3rd gear at about 2k rpms and WOT... It would kick at 3k rpms and even before that I had better tq.

It is just funny how you don't feel such a rush as a instant boost at 4k rpms put more of a push than does one from 3k and that is why it is harder to notice the power increase and why it feels slower. But I know it isn't lol

The motor is smoother as it isn't struggling to push the exhaust out lol.

Tampa:

seems more like having a test pipe. Some things you have said are common with test pipes.

The surge of power at 4K is due to the fact that the G's tourque curve is apexing at 4400 or so, It seems likely that you've maybe lost some low rpm hp, but you've gained in the higher rpms...

I do agree with Jeff though, the magnaflow glasspacks on a true dual setup would be sick

Congrats tampa You got the mod bug now

It just seems to like the car has more power but not as rough as before.

almost as if this part in the HR is what makes it smoother???

Also a lot like a test pipe because it gets more Peak HP and less Tq at the low end!

Yep! I beleive the Y-Pipe behaves more like the testpipes, which is why the G-37 has relatively small low end torque and high end horsepower, thus the high revs to get all the power at out of it.

If you want that sound, you will have to get a testpipe and a catback exhaust. I beleive that guys catback exhaust sound more like the Greddy Evo II cat back. Stillen cat backa nd testpipes are are also just as good especially when you hit 4500RPM up to 7000 RPM on 4th or 5th gear--it is so loud you can be heard for miles coming. Thes edays some cars actually move out of my way when they hear me coming---intaake noise and exhaust noise--it feels great. And when I pass them, I susually have at least two cars following me because they love the sound of the car. The G-35 is a marvelous car in every respect.

Jacko... What do you mean by that last post??

I like the sound I have now with just the resignator. I am going to have the shop cut that pipe and weld a Y and then two pipes to the rear.. .one on each side.

It will be sweet.

I also think that I am going to put in Test pipes and a spacer... Im not doing the Mrev2 because it cost too much money lol..

instead of the MREV2, you might want to try and find a lower plenum from an 03/04 G... I think that SBD did that and is going to polish it

I might do that... I really don't need the extra power

That will be the last thing I do to the car lol

I installed this 350z HR y pipe also...just two days ago.

Fitment was a little tight but I got in on. Sound didnt change much for me, but...

Felt a much quicker response and it feels like its revving faster. Also it seems like I'm going faster by the time I shift into third...like 5mph higher.

I think this complimented the coupe midpipe and HKS axle back very nicely.

Now for some HFCs

Yes, you were going faster. Y-Pipe is like a truncated test pipe. it behaves very close to what a test pipe does. With my test pipes, I easily do 60 miles an hour in second gear.

But the motor at red line can only make the car go so fast in a particular gear. No matter how fast you get their! It is a set gear ratio and an output by the motor.

It is dependant on the output of the motor. I was in a 3000GT with stage 2 turbos, larger intercooler and we were going almost 90 MPH is 2nd gear
