This seems to be a weird trend. Some unsprung pucked clutches seem really harsh, while others are almost organic in their engagement characteristics.
My SR20DET S13 has a 10.5 lb TODA flywheel and an ACT 6 puck unsprung disk with the HD pressure plate. My car is pretty darn tricky on hills, and honestly it takes almost 2-2.5k RPM so that the harsh engagement doesn't stall the engine out on any sort of hill. On level ground the clutch really isn't that bad, but there is almost no way to "feather" the thing, it grabs and grabs hard when you let it out even slowly. I can get some pretty mean chatter by trying to ride it out from a stop too.
Now, I have driven this clutch on the street and even in traffic and it really isn't that bad. I still do cringe a little when I come up to a really steep hill and someone gets REALLY close to my rear bumper(all too common in Atlanta).
I'm just wondering why there's such a difference in how people feel with their clutches. Some people say the ACT 6 puck wasn't bad at all for them, but they had stock flywheels so I figured the extra mass made it that much easier to start out.
Plus my SR is down a bit on off-boost power like a standing start compared to your KA-T guys so that might make some starts a bit trickier. My car weighs maybe 2500lbs though, so it can't be that hard for the engine to pull it around.
