Start slow, get things figured out, then start building M3 beaters.

Look at the M3s and AMGs of the 90s, they had their perks, but were not all that different from their base counterparts.

I think this is a good start for Infiniti, and it could lead to much better things. I think they are on the right track, they upgraded every aspect of the car, even if only a little bit.

nah guy, nissan always does that, they dont want broken crap coming back to the shops, look at NISMO, the highest tuned NISMO is sub par to the rest man.

Keep in mind that they don't want to outclass the GTR either. I would love to see a factory G37TT but they wouldn't make it if it put out more HP than the brand flagship.

"IPL" sounds like a beer. They could've done better for a moniker.

And this opening shot should have been a car to get people talking, something without compromises. Either a force-fed monstrosity or a totally stripped down stock-engined G37.

18hp gain is lame, but they do have a warranty to think about. Anyone recall what Mazda did with the (FD3s) RX7? Yeah not a good car to have a 10yr 100k extended warranty available on. That said, Ford's SVT cobra-R (2000) came stripped, basically track ready and was not available with a warranty for good reason.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose? They'd be better off stripping a 370z, it needs it anyway.

It's the same powertrain as the Nismo 370Z and a different aero package. It makes no sense to add another engine tune package when the Nismo 370Z had a better tuned engine at 350hp (+17 over std 370Z).

Yeah, IPL is terrible. Worse than F by a LONGSHOT, and F was formerly the worst sounding performance badge out there.

I don't understand why they don't just call it the Nismo G37. Because that's what it is. In-house performance parts...that's NISMO.

Short term it will create a buzz and sell some units. Long term, this strategy of starting slow with a performance line is a 90s strategy, when companies were testing waters.

The company is 10+ years behind the other luxury brands performance lines, so ... bad move ?

You're kidding, right? E30 M3, couldn't even get that engine in a standard E30. Same with the E36... the S50/52 series engines were leaps and bounds above the M50/52. Tons of parts on the 90s Ms are completely reworked from the standards.
