any one else feel the same way, my new G37s is not even one month old and the hood has already encountered a few chips, it seems like anything that hits it just chips the paint, is it just my G or anyone else have this problem, my 2001 maxima had the same problem with the paint, it seems Nissan still has not figured it out in regards to their paint being chip prone. Down the road I will be looking to repaint the hood, and will make sure the body shop will not use Nissan paint.

It's a very well known Nissan/Infiniti problem.

Newer water based eco-friendly paints simply aren't as good as the older oil based paints. It really doesn't matter much which car manufacturer you go to now. The paints are pretty soft compared to old paints. Hence the need for products like Clear Bra to exist.

AS for the self-healing paints, they show promise, but I haven't heard if they are any more chip resistant. They are supposed to reduce the appearance of light scratches. But if a portion of the paint is physically removed, I doubt it will self heal.

I've asked the ex owners in their forum and they were happy. After few months of ownership they had no issue at all. Scratch or chip. But time will tell. It is promising for sure.

My 04 G35C had the typical chips on the bumper and the hood when I first looked it over on the car lot. Went back for a second viewing a week later and the dealer had resprayed both!!! So far, the hood and bumper have been holding up nicely!I did check on the 3M, but the local installer said they are leary of putting it on cars that have been resprayed. Like I said, holding up good anyway! Infiniti paint is weak!

for the whole car?

depends on color, depends on the shop that does it for you

For a good recoat on the car it should be around $2000

around $4000 if they take the car apart and do each piece seperately

Just got a quote from a bodyshop of $350 to repaint my hood on my G, he said he would color match and paint the damaged areas, then give the complete hood a fresh clear coat, does that sound right.

Sounds good to me!!!

I had my bumper resprayed on my Cobra a few years ago and it was either $400 or $450.....

I assume they are taking the hood off of the car??

A proper repaint requires that all trim and window seals be removed. Masking it off leaves an edge of the paint open to the elements. Paint will lift and bubble within a few years. I'd estimate a minimum of $3K properly done. Likely more though since $3K was more typical many many years ago.

Just had my hood repainted, they did a real good job except for the orange peel, which was a bi more than the rest of the OEM panels had, so they wet sanded it down with 2000 grid, looked great when I left the place, now that it's in my garage I can see little small scratches all over the hood, as I was told not to wax the hood for at least a month so the paint can cure and release all it's toxic chemicals, I don't want to take it back since they already had it over sprayed with clear in the first place "reason for the wet sanding", before I wax it should I use anything else to get rid of those light scratches "they are hardly visible" the excessive orange peel is gone, so that's a good thing, I was told only to use glaze "which does not protect the paint for now" , car is garaged and have second vehicle to get to work and back.

Hello,While I am in total agreement about the current issues with Nissan/Infiniti paints, the 1st gen (G50) Q45 paint quality is incredible. As is the 2003-2004 (Y34) M45 and 2002-2006 (F50) Q45. Other than people having issues with black paint, there have been few other problems with chipping.Cheers,ML
