My fellow Q members,

We as an administrator/moderator staff have been discussing for the past few weeks how best to arrange our forums as it was self-evident the previous setup was not the ideal.

We looked at other successful sites and received many good ideas and debated them for a few weeks until we came up with a new structure. As part of this structure, however, Infiniti General will no longer exist as "Infiniti General".

We all know that 95% of the people in this forum are Q45 or M45 owners. You guys have long lobbied for your own forum (M45 owners especially) and we have decided to make a Q45 & M45/35 Forum.

This forum will keep, for the most part, our Infiniti General crowd intact and also prepare us for future growth from the new M45 coming out this spring.

We do understand that some of you may not particularly feel comfortable with this move and we are open to hearing what you have to say about it, but I think that it will be the right move for all concerned.

As far as the G20, J30 and M30 are concerned, your threads will be moved into the "Others Forum". While we realize you probably aren't too happy about this move, consider this: the traffic we receive from these 3 models is minimal at best. Unfortunately, we have not been able to attract a consistent crowd for these cars. If we do, we will not hesitate to give, for example, the G20 its own forum.

Thank you for your understanding and God bless.

I don't like it, but its necessary. With the new M45 around the corner and already a separate G35 forum, only us Q, J, and 04 M45 folks are left posting in Infiniti General. I would have preferred all Infiniti under Infiniti General, instead of a separate G35 forum, but whats done is done.

Perhaps it will make more sense to have VQ35DE and VK45DE forums also as discussions about the V6 engines in an M45/Q45 forum will be lost on those owners.

J30 seems to have a substantial following for the model, but this site doesn't support it as well as Carlos Knology's few pages.

M30 and G20 obviously need their own forums, or adopt the Infiniti corporate stance that all cars made before 2002 don't count.

No, no, no, no! Please do not separate the Infiniti General forum out into little pieces!!! I have had Q45's in the past, have an M45 now, and a G35 may be in the future for my wife. And I like reading about all other Infiniti models.

It is a pain to have to go looking through multiple forums for information (there are too many already!), and separating models further makes this worse.

I occasionally look into the G35 forum, and find it relatively sparse of posts. In fact, Ryan (rdywhite) commented and thanked me once for stopping by and posting information. It is a relatively quiet forum and the M45 out will be far more dead!

I strongly recommend keeping us all together!

If the traffic from the other models is minimal, why separate them out? I have no problem reading and responding to the few J30/G20 threads - they are obviously different cars, but they have a lot in common. If NICO is hellbent on separating these models out, at least give them a separate forum, rather than lumping them in to "Others Forum"

First off, you guys are more important than an administrative decision. If the Infiniti owners really don't want this, we will leave it as it is.

Second, you guys rock!

I agree with everyone.. I see no reason to split up InfGen...

Behind the scenes, we were working to make this format a bit user friendly.. We are planning some other changes that will help consolodate everything, so there is as little overlap as possible...

I am neutral on this one.A Q45&M45/35 forum would help attract extra guys from the expected M series sales success.

One the other hand our current Infiniti general forum is a great community..

I agree that we J30 owners have been pretty quiet lately, but I enjoy being part of a larger community, and don't really want to be "banished."

Would anyone have a real problem with us re-naming the forum to "Q45, M35/45, J30, G20 & M30" ?

This would allow us to put it where it needs to go (the car specific section) and have it make sense. It would also not leave anyone out.

I'd like for it to be left alone. Although a J30 owner, I personally visit this forum daily. I enjoy reading and learning about the Q45 since I hope to replace the J30 with a Q45 or M45 someday.

As it is, I like the fact that some of the G20/J30 questions are answered by Q45 owners. If broken out into separate forums, most q45 owners will stay in their forum and would likely not contribute in the "other" forums.

Even on my J30 website, I've made it a point to direct traffic here. I get lots of emails from J30 owners saying they didn't know NICO existed. Whether they join NICO or not, I don't know.

If split out, I'm afraid the G20/ J30 forums will stagnate and traffic from owners of those models will decrease.

I think a renaming might make sense, if that's what you guys want to do.

General may be, well, just that.

While I do not have a problem with renaming per se, what about the other Infiniti models (the I30 and I35)? You do not want to leave them off, right?

I think it is simpler to rename it to something simple (like just "All Infiniti Models"), if you want to do that. But then, the separate G35 forum gets confusing. Oops!

Maybe we could just call it ...

Infiniti Q45, M45/35, G20, J30, M40

The G35 has it's own seperate forum and then the SUV's (QX4, QX56 and FX35/45) are in their own forums and then I30/35 have their own as well. That way the Infiniti section is still sort of a general section but isn't too cumbersome in title and really doesn't discriminate against any model. I think if it is placed maybe directly above or below the G35 forum that it may draw more attention to the G35 forum as well.

Z,

The FX35, FX45, G35, I30, I35 and QX4 all have their own forums. That is part of the reason we were looking at making a change.

I like Ryan's idea of "Infinit ....". What do you guys think?

Actually, I have an even better idea:

We leave the forum named Infiniti General, but in the description, instead of saying "to discuss all things infiniti", we say "q45, m45, etc." and we move the forum to "car specific" instead of "general"

The forum would not change, would not be split in any way, it would just let new members know that their infiniti has a home too.

We don't realy need the I30-35 and G20 to be here. The I people cloud easily go to the Maxima forum. They are the same car. The G20 people could go to the Sentra forum. Isn't the G20 a glorified Sentra anyway. J30 should still stay with us because it has no Nissan counterpart. So make this a Q, M, J forum. The M30, forget about it. I don't think there's enough people that know about the M30 to get any info. If you have an M30, your on your own.

1) yes2) No. No G20 of any generation shares a platform with any generation Sentra.3)+4)We are an all inclusive club it is important to me (and others as well) that we can provide a useful forum for all Nissan/Infiniti's. There will be no orphaned platforms.

I think the Solution of labeling Infiniti general and putting the G35 foprums below is a good one.

We J30 owners are quiet cuz we've already worked the bugs out of our 10-year old cars.

But we still enjoy reading about all things Infiniti.

So what is G20 shared with? Is it Altima or is it unique to Infiniti? I can't imagine that it is not a shared platform.

The G20 is a Primera P10, P11 chassis.

Not sure what it was called previously.

Some parts crossover from other SR20 powered stuff (headers, pulleys, cams, short intakes) but that's it AFAIK.

It's a Sentra cousin... I think Fred was thinking G35 when he typed that...

Ok I've made the change. We are now located in the "Car Specific" category and underneath Infiniti General, you'll see all the models we discuss here.

I think this was a great solution to the problem and I appreciate all you guys for your input and understanding as we made these changes.

It needs to be adjusted for a lot of things right now. Just give us a few days and I promise it will be working again.
