For the $14k+ an Aveo would run, one could find a NICE used-but-still-under-warranty car. Certified preowned or just a couple years old. New subcompacts are a TREMENDOUS waste of money. Not only will they loose value, like all cars, but they're arguably overpriced anyway. If your budget is under $20k, the solution is not to buy a cheap new car, it's to buy something a couple years old. Or older. But there's a nice sweet spot in there where you can benefit from a warranty and still not pay new-car prices.
You can either benefit from depreciation, or take a loss from it. I'm not up for the latter.
My budget at the time was sub $13K. Couldn't get a used Versa yet - and a used Aveo just wasn't gonna do, the Scion used was nearly as much as it was NEW... so not a lot of saving (besides the dealer wouldn't show me the one I wanted anyway)...
At that time the NEW Versa (2.8L, Auto, Air, PS, PB, PW, PL, CD, Aluminum Trim Pack, Floor Mats, and Trunk mat made since, as my wife and I have just had too many used cars (both Japanese and American) that were

failures.
The only real problem with new cars is that Banks don't care if your financial situation changed or not... they don't refinance cars (even when you keep up on your payments

, so we let em take it away.
