Yes, these are amazing in person. A change of pants is pretty much mandatory when one gets within a 10 foot radius.

All Hail the return of the rotary engine!!!It is so great that mazda is keeping it alive, fills me with a warm fuzzy feeling. What I really want is a Suzuki RE-5, or a Hercules W-2000, or some goofy Norton rotary bike I've never seen.Ahh yeah

Looks better in "person" (as I'm not there myself) than in photos I've seen.

Also smaller than I thought, which is a good thing.

250hp, 159ft/lbs of torque.

I'd drive the hell out of one. The short-throw 6-speed shifter is amazing.

all that horsepower, and no torque...:(

Whats the concept behind the rotary engine, a lot of people like it, but a lot of people say it is unreliable...i personally like torquey engines, so thats the downfall to the engine in my book...

still a nice looking car, wonder if I can shove a RB26DETT in there...weeeeeeeeeeeeeee©:hitit

if you are really bored at work and squint really hard those headlights look like S15 headlights from the side :)

BTW, the NA rotaries were NEVER finickey. They were just about as bomb proof as a frikin KA. However, it wasn't until they added a turbo or two that the rotaries began to get fubared. Especially with the twins, the 13BT would go almost 100k if pushed hard, but the 13BTT motor in the FD would blow up way before that if driven hard.

Well, it's naturally aspirated, which means it should be a huge leap reliability-wise over the FD.

If I squint really hard...I see...

You dont buy an RX-7 or RX-8 for reliability. Ill think about getting one when they throw a turbo on it (which they probably never will).

See my above comments for reliability issues and why they will not add a turbo (well they might, but I doubt it)

Hi,I saw the RX-8 at an auto show, and as far as I can tell, one of the chief designers musta been totally stoned whenhe came up with that look.

The RX-8 is butt ugly in my book. I like the last RX-7.

Bye!

Imagine what the return of the RX-7 will have under the hood??? The next gen Supra should kick balls too.

like 6 people just replied to this thread in the last two minutes..anyways. When I look at the front of the rx8 it looks like a goofy face with a giant smile and its eyes closed(:D). I don't think its cool looking at all, but then again I don't think anything looks more kickass than the 97-98 240 front so.

Yes, the FD did get out at the top of it's game. The RX-8 is not a continuation of the RX-7 line. If the RX-8 does well, they will bring the RX-7 back as a hella pimptastic 2 seater coupe that will own all.

Perhaps that's true, but it sounds like the same things people used to say when they talked about Fiats, MG's, and Alfa's.

"You don't buy it because it's reliable..."

That might explain why so many of those adorable little roadsters are now rusting ****roaches. Let's hope the Renesis works out and doesn't send Mazda the way of NSU/dodo bird.

Why are all the new so called sports cars 4-doors? To me the Evo, WRX, STi, RX-8,spec V are all disapointing. I think they should have left the gay mini suicide door thing to saturn. If your hauling your kids around in the back seat who is going to push the limits? And when you dont have them why would you really want a 4-door?

That red one was supposedly the prototype, and thus costs a lot more than $25K. More along the lines of 6 figures....but yeah, i know what ya mean.

I thought the RX8 was pretty cool when it came to my town, but I wasnt that impressed. I wouldnt buy it for $20000. Although backseat roominess is a definite plus, the interior in general was a bit too plasticky for my tastes.

Pretty cool you guys got a blue one. Los Angeles got a silver one.

me likes. having never owned anything more expensive than a $4,000 car I'd take it. the rear seats and 4 doors to seem kinda pointless since most people who want it want it for the sportscar part of it, but I won't kick it outta bed for eating crackers.
