There is a place that opened up in my area not too long ago called Smash Burger, there arnt many, but after eating there a few times that should change. Best burger i have ever had, home cooked or elsewhere. We took my girls dad there and he gave it the same high praise. And they have some of the best fries also. All i can say is that if you have the chance check them out, a little pricey but worth every penny.

Hell YES. Twice a month I reward myself with Rally's after sweating my a** off in the warehouse. I get the triple Big Buford with fries and a coke. The flour-dusted bun and fresh veggies are epic.

And those are the best fries, ever, ever, ever.

Have you ever tried a plain cup of coffee from Starbucks?
Yes, and that's what I'm talking about, just a plain black cup of coffee. Personally I just think it's too bitter and unflavorful.

Personally, I'd take Starbucks over DD or McD's. Their beans are very definitely over roasted, but DD and McD's just taste like cheap coffee, IMO. Starbucks doesn't taste cheap, just incorrectly prepared. However, I only grab Starbucks when I'm in an unfamiliar area with no knowledge of the local shops. Heck, even then I sometimes google up a non-chain location in the area to try their brew.

McDs coffee is actually okay, but the people who prepare it don't know when to throw away an old batch or how strong to make it.

It is good when it's done right.

Dave, I would agree. That is what scares me about McD's: sometimes you get crap, sometimes it's good. DD's is always just mediocre. Starbucks is, again, over-roasted but tends to be fairly consistent. Actually, out of the original list I would probably put Caribou at the top (never had Peet's though).

And, in case anyone is wondering, I drink my coffee black. Always. So my opinion is not being influenced by different levels of creamer or sugar.

Caribou is good, but they only have locations around the White House and WAYYYY downtown.

Not worth the trip on Metro...

Bitter yes. Unflavorful (sic) no.

It is the difference between a McDonald's burger, and ribs which have been smoked for days and slathered with strong sauce. Some people like McDonald's burgers better than good smoked ribs, because the flavor is basic and doesn't ask too much... but I prefer the dark, aged complexity of the ribs. I can't necessarily fault either crowd because we all seem to have different tastes.

I don't even know where the nearest one to me is. Then again, if it is local to me I try to hunt down the smaller coffee shops. I would recommend most people do that. If they roast their own beans in-store, you are FAR more likely to end up with a better cup of coffee. Then, if you're worried about cost, buy it by the pound and brew your own at home. You just have to front the cost of a good bean grinder (which is definitely not cheap).

You gotta look for good restaurants in the areas you travel too in order to find the good food, otherwise it just makes you look silly saying you're area has the best!
What the hell am I holding on to? I just said In n Out is okay and I really like Tommy's. At what point did I ever say that California's food is the craziest? As a matter of fact my 2 favorite restaurants are in Vegas and New Orleans. Dude you've got some serious issues with wanting to argue and manufacturing these obscure ideas. I'm starting to think you're clinical.

I don't take any umbrage to your disliking Five Guys, but it is absolutely nothing like In-N-Out nor is it trying to be. Everything about the taste is totally different, there's no way they benchmarked their product on I-n-O.

If you want a good Burger, go to Counter.

Nobody is jealous of California, its asinine vehicle inspections, it's moron Govener, it's shaka bra surfer d-bags, it's bigger d-bag valley girls and it's gimped cars that vehicle manufacturers produce for the state. If my folks didn't live there, I would avoid it like the plague.
I get fizzy feeling in my cockle when I read ILLEGAL IN CALIFORNIA on the case for my Springfield XD45 :)

I wanna try in and out so I can be let down by them too.

best bang for the buck for burgers, the Wendy's Doublestack.

OH YES IT IS!

I like their mushroom burger too. But Hardee's doesn't really classify as fast food much anymore, they have table service and use actual cooking equipment.

If anyone is traveling to Oregon anytime soon, I'd recommend McMenamin's for good burgers and even better beer. There are locations all over the place, a lot of them in historic buildings. Some of them do Dinner-Movie deals. It's been an institution in Portland for years.

Five guys burgers and fries is awesome... Had it for the first time last week, my brother had a leftover double cheese burger with everything but the kitchen sink on it and half a bag of fries and gave it to me. It was even a little cold and was pretty near one of the best things I have ever eaten.

Checkers is also awesome, ate at one in the bronx a few times. Great fries.
