With the economy not likely to improve very fast, I turned in all my leased vehicles (2)
and broke out the 240SX out of storage. It has been in storage for 4 years although I would drive it for a day once a month just to keep things working. Needs a tune up which I will have done tomorrow, but my question is, how do I make the ride feel a little bit smoother.
I got on the freeway last night and at about 55 mph I could hear a humming noise and slight vibration to the body of the car. It wasnt out of alignment because the steering wheel was not vibrating. But its like you can feel very bump in the road. I know that the 240SX was not made as a cruiser, but this felt like my old Nissan pick-up truck that I had when I was a teenager. It has to be better than that??????????? Any solutions????????
Thanks

Luxury tires, balanced, alignment, and replace those worn out links and bushings.

How many miles are on this car?

What kind of vehicles were your old daily drivers(the leased cars)?

It could be that you just need a little maintanace, and some tires, or it could be that you are just used to a higher end car.

Generally speaking, a shake in the steering wheel is NOT caused by alignment, that is a common misnomer.

PS, welcome to Nico. You should post some pictures of your car. All that time in storage tells me you have a clean 240 on your hands.

Precisely. And check your tire pressure too...

you may have warped rotors also, or a bad wheel bearing. if you really want the quite ride and are willing to do a little work, you can put expanding foam in between all the open spaces in your body. like the A/B/C pillars and everywhere else it can fill a gap. also some dynomat would work very good too. i have never done these but have heard amazing things about them. and yes lets see this car!

240s are just not comfortable cars, period.

They are light, noisy, and were built as economy cars. By keeping it maintained and up to spec it'll be decent, but never really comfortable. If you're going to start putting money into yours, I'd focus on performance suspension upgrades, not comfort. There's really no "comfort" upgrades out there anyways.

The vibration sounds like you probably have a tire out of balance.

He's right, although I wouldn't use dynamat, its too overpriced. The only reason I used it is because I can get bulk packs for 90 bucks. I also fulled most of the dead space with Great Stuff. It cut down on road noise a little, but more importantly it made the car feel more solid. Another thing to try is to take out the dash and other panels and spend the day tightening everything that has come loose.
