i know i saw a S15 for sale last year in Atlanta for around $30,000, it was at a dealership but i think it was just a gimick to get people to come in and look at the cars. As far as a car being 25 years old before it can be imported isnt so true because one of the first GTR's in amercia was imported. i recall in the article about it the guy bought the car in japan and had it taken apart and put it back together here in the staes and somehow had it legalized for street use. There are loopholes to every law if you have the money, re-manufactured is the key word here people. to costly for the average man to afford.

http://www.importtuner.com/fea....htmlThat was last months import tuner, thats one of 2 s15s ive seen in VA i saw another at barnes and noble got pics on my phone. Theyre around'

Article said this about importing s15's:Her biggest challenge was encountered early-on. "The more I looked into importing a car and legalizing it for street use, the more I realized it was impossible," she explains. "To clear customs, any car coming into the U.S. has to be brought in by a certified importer." And if that's not enough, "On a federal level, unless a certain model of car has been crash tested and modified to meet U.S. safety standards, it can never be legally registered under its model name for highway use. And since no company has done that with the S15, they have to be given a title at the state level, under a kit- or custom-car loophole of some kind." It gets worse, "Most states only give out a few of these registrations each year, so the chances of getting one are very small." Rather than risk her investment getting confiscated in customs, or impounded and destroyed after she was finished building it, Jen searched for pre-registered S15s in the country. It took months. Some cars had been imported in two halves; others were completely gutted, illegally VIN tagged and registered as reconstructed 240SXs. But most were already built as race or show cars and had never been titled at all. And then one day, she struck gold. "It was a little rougher than I would've liked," she begins, modestly, "but registered, titled, and ready to go. I bought it that day, and drove it back to Virginia to get started."

i would love a S15 but i also think that the S14 is good enough.. but damn New Zealand has those 200SX S15s for only $6000 if only i could import one here.. im gonna go talk to the DMV people and see if i can get a kit car VIN for it..maybe i can get away with puttin a V8 LS in it or a VQ35? or something else street legal..i know theres a couple R34s in illinois..

Actually anything from 1975 and older doesn't require smog every 2 years (aka- no smog). That's the last year that law was in effect. Technically tho Any car from 65'-75' needs to have the original emission equipment on it to be driven legally on the streets but the chances of you getting pulled over and cited for it are slim to none. (I say 65-75 because I believe 65 is when vehicles started to get any sort of actual emission equipment)

This is at least how it works here in Cali

sry to bring up an old thread but...

Can one ship an s15 chassis without drive train into the US then install a ka24de to meet smogg then pass inspection that way? or can the feds still come and seize it? I have read the 6 pages about skyline importation but wheres the info on the s15?

Why Risk It Getting It Seized, Just Waste The Money On A Kouki.
There are US companies that can legally convert cars to being legal for US Spec... There are only a few that are US credited though and they charge heavily, visit japanautodirect.com and speak with Jack, he can tell you about the legalities... Its perfectly legal to import an R33 if you have it converted to spec by one of the credited conversion shops, but R32/R34 are not allowed due to a crash rating or something like that. Idk about silvias and stuff.
