umm have you really looked at the SRT-4? its running stock hp at 12psi first of all and has underperforming numbers. if you look at an SRT-4 forum there are WAY more people *****ing about everything that is breaking then saying they like there car (there still are some). its a very underperforming car in my opinion and anyways AT THE END OF THE DAY YOU ARE STILL DRIVING A NEON!!

Yeah, I've seen some pretty cool looking fords that are sold overseas and I always wondered why not here? Why do we always get watered down versions of the bada$$ cars sold elsewhere? Why aren't we worthy of those european and japanese supercars? Bah!

and on that neon: ugly ugly ugly.

yea no crap, and as previoulsy posted, the neon numbers arent THAT great, not for how highly tuned it is right from the factory, a stock turbo on 12psi, think about an sr2o which has .4 less liters of displacement, and bump that up to 12 psi, you'll easily be hitting 220numbers there, hell the s15 sr makes more than that on stock (1opsi) boos

perhaps but ye ol' civic doth not put down 170hp and 145 ft/lbs of torque. yes the new civic si throws down 160hp and 132ft/lbsof torque. and besides i tried really hard to think of a good domestic that compared to a 240sx if it were brand new. but yea i can see the civic wanna be thing. :D

I hear that. I see those damn cars everywhere. soooo freakin many of them. and now every "tuning" company and their mothers have parts for them. at least there will be a huge influx of cheat fwd cars that have appeal to the rice crowd so they'll stay away from the 240s.

If Dodge made the Razor and Pontiac made the Solstice I would be harded press to find a reason not to buy one with a sticker price under 20grand with 240hp and light weight. I think a lot of people would buy one they would be f*#%ing awesome! It would change my option about domestic cars alot. Who wouldn't want one?

Agreed! (what about Korean though? they come after american, they drop their value like StrongSad sinking in a sharktank)

IMO, a sports car or 'sport sedan' must have the right combination of power/handling/reliability in order for me to give it my coveted 'thumbs up'if one of those categories is severely lacking or non-existant. then it's not worth it. and all too often american cars are like that, they're really high in one category and low in the others.case in point the srt-4...mwahaha

I think you'd disagree on the German cars being highest quality if you read some of the recall problems Benz and Porsche are having.

BMW has cleverly concealed their reliability issues from the public - Costs them tons of $$$ in advertising with the major car magazines.

I'd put modern Jap reliability up against ANY other marque.

And the Korean companies are kicking a$$ - Who else is offering 10 year, 100K warranties? Kia, Hyundai and Daewoo make damn good cars (not necessarily fun or fast, but good quality).

hah about the korean car quality, my car of battle is a 97 hyundai tiburon. its currently has 92k miles on it, and holly crap has this thing been ragged on. its been used and abused it whole life. i am more than suprised how its held up. this car has been brought up to red line practically its whole life. i take care of it though, i baby it, and then drive the hell out of it. besides the transmission probs. its on its third transmission now. the stock transmission practically exploded inside, the 2nd one was a defect, and now im on my 3rd hopfully this will last till i sell it.

about the whole domestic vs import deal. yea the domestics have an advantage in their home playing field. but if we were in japan, naturally it would be a diff story. one domestic i would love to get is a 69 camaro ss, deffinately black. and for a new domestic, which is quite expensive, is the 2002 pontiac ram air. beautifully fast car.

I agree with everything you pointed out. German cars look nice and drive well and definatley have the power, but too many problems and getting them worked on is a pain in the wallet and a$$. I would take any Japanese car over a german car any day. and if i was on a tight budget, i'd get a korean car, although they are doing bad in sales right now, they are some damn realiable cars.

Domestics and imports both rock. But they both suck too. It just depends on the car.

hyundai's reliability is tied in 2nd place with honda, toyota is still in first.

I'd own one. I especially like the looks of the Kia Optima and the new Tiburon.

I went to a fleet expo in Chicago a few years back (in place of our state fleet coordinator). There was a "testdrive" event where they set up a road course, and we got to drive various new cars (there were over 100 in all). There was a line to drive the high-dollar rides, so I wandered to the Daewoo tent.

Sales guy there was cool as hell and offered me the new wagon to drive (Daewoo was not yet IN the market, it was right before they were introduced in the US market). I laughed and told him "I'd break that sad excuse for a car." He laughed right back and said, if you do, I'll give it to you. Damn.

SO, I drove the piss outta that car for 20 minutes on a road course - And I was impressed. Definitely a "cheap" car, and certainly no Q45, but damn - That car took everything crazy I could throw at it, and it actually performed pretty well.

Highlight of the trip? Driving a pre-production PT Cruiser and being thoroughly UNimpressed. Told the Chrysler guy in the taxi on the way back to the hotel, "You'll sell a ton of these, but they suck." :D

Hehe, I got a PT as a rental car once. They're just gutless neons with a different body.

I'm a car enthusiast. I like, and can appreciate both forgien and domestic makes. Remember, there are jerks in all camps, try not to judge a make on those who drive them.

are you serious? Tell that to a friend of mine that has a Kia (sophia i think) The front bumper falls off. Not over bumps, not if she hits things, it jsut falls off. She has had it repaired several times now, so what if they repair it for free.. it still FALLS OFF!
