When my timing chain broke it was really obvious. I opened the oil cap and had my friend give the starter a little tap. The cams didnt move so I knew my chain was broke. Still havent pulled the engine to switch it. I almost dont even want to bother because I really dont want to pull the head to see if valves are bent.

The timing chain will sometimes make that horrid noise I'm quite sure your guide or guides are shot. my car did this once. then it started to do it more frequently. then i replaceed the chain and assembly.

Yeah, I know I'll have to break down (not literally, I hope) and get that taken care of soon. If it can just hold out until I get a house...

I havent driven mine for 2 days now :( My throw out bearing seized so I pulled the engine to replace the TO bearing and the transmission. The transmission was bad also. Im tearing the engine down to block and head and I will be replacing all the little hoses and other crap. EGR is now removed along with some other useless crap, like the 2nd butterflies :D It should be a beast when its back in, ordered header, Apexi N1 and test pipe. They should be here sometime this week also :D Car should be up and running again by next week.

right when i bought my s13 i had to replace the clutch because the previous owner never changed it. so it was out of order for like 2 weeks. every day during the process of replacing my clutch i would always get the urge to drive it. it felt like i really wanted something so bad but couldn't have it. ever felt that way? but now that everything is fine and running i try to not drive it as much, but sometimes i wake up in the middle of the night with the urge to drive it, so i drive around for like 30 minutes then go back home and sleep.

I think I win, I bought my 1990 240 Fastback SE from my step-dad back in October of last year. Its going to be registered on August 1st :-), because thats when I get my full license. But I have to say I do drive it occasionally around the block for fun when I feel like a 'FIEND'. I ordered Motegi MR7 17" rims w/ Hannok tires, ECU upgrade, HKS Ignition, GREDDY SP exhaust, and it all should be here by wednesday. Right now i only have Injen CAI, but it still whomps! How much WHP do you think I will be dealing with after all of these mods?

well hexfactor, many of the upgrades u mentioned require tuning to get their potential power, honestly, your biggest gains will probably be from your tires, they'll give u better grip, which means , better acceleration, braking, handling, everything, but as far as rough hp figures: ecu upgrade: totally variable, hks ignition: totally variable, exhaust: 5 or so whp, so u wont gain much 'peak' hp, but u will feel your power in a wider powerband with the ecu upgrades and such, good luck with your car, and welcome to NICO

How would I tune the ignition and ecu and exhaust? Is there any steps I can take to do this?
