If that is the upper timing chain guide mine had the same problem except it just rode on top of the chain without catching on the chain ite self till i was able to open up the cam cover and remove it.

It looks like once the timing guides get old and wear to a certian extent the chain starts to rub on the base of the upper guide and after a while it cuts through the upper guide completly causing it to ride on the chain its self or so u have seen it catches on the chain and snaps it or breaks the end off a cam or punches through the cam cover.

I've got a spare head that has a lot of material removed from the front cam caps and head itself because of that.

yea its totally fine. while your at it, you should remove the lower chain guide too. but for that you have to pull the distributor, and the upper timing cover off too. but in reality it only takes like 45 minutes. and it will save you THIS headache in the future.

I would say that it is fixable. Is it going to be 100% reliable? The only problems I can think of would be if the cam/ cam gear was really stressed when that metal was jammed in there since i think there have been a few broken ones without metal jammed into them. Or if there is some chunks of metal floating around in your oil. I would say its worth a shot and potentially easier than swapping a whole motor.

oh okay.I was wondering if an ebay set would be fine? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...A1318

and the piece that was broken off inside mine, was that piece on the bottom right. Which I believe to be either the upper(right) guide or the lower guide.

You get what you pay for. Personally since that set has the upper and lower guides Nissan said to remove I would avoid that made in China cookie cutter set. Unless your factory double row upper is damaged or the lower has damage I would not worry about the timing chain. For starters I say check cam timing and ignition timing and go from there.

the chain is broke man!i agree on avoiding cheapos now.but where can I find good prices cuz courtestparts sure arent cheap with their sets that range $4-$600! but I as of right now, I kno the chain needs replacing. and the guides will deff. be out.

i have three ka's that run...two are in cars, one in a 240 and the other in a volvo 244. and one sitting in my garage. $60.00 plus shipping for a running one, I have a video of the 240 running yesterday. The one in my garage was just completely rebuilt so it would be $650.00 plus shipping for that one. (new rods, pistons, bearings, crank and valves)
