So most of you already know i totalled my s14 at the end of april and have been looking for a new 240 on the cheaper side ever sense.

for those of you that dont know, heres the storyhttp://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=419804

Anyways, i planned on getting an s14 shell and swapping everything over, and starting from where i left off like it never happend. I finally grew out of the attachment and decided to go with whatever made the most sense

I came across this maybe a month and a half ago and decided this is what i wanna get. Its not running yet, its a little rough, and is gonna need some work, but im straight with it.

Got my money together, and got this thing towed to my house today!

But heres the best part

I always wanted to go ka-t, and never really cared for the SR, but i got the whole car for $1500, and considering the SR alone is like 2 grand, thats not bad at all. Ive heard SRs can be pretty reliable especially if your goals are only like 300whp. Plus, its not an s14, but when i was 12 and first started getting into 240s, i always wanted the fastback, and now i got it!

Tommarow im gonna take everything out of the car and clean it all up. Then i gotta figure out what the deal is with the two back tires and the no air. I plan on painting that front bumper pretty soon, and it needs new suspension and brakes pretty bad

As far as the SR, hes got everything i need to finish the swap other than the radiator, hoses, fuel pump, and some bolts he said

Thats pretty much it for now. Ill be a little bit smarter and wiser the second time around, and i cant f***ing wait to get this thing running

As long as everything is there to complete the swap and the motor is in good condition internally, it a great deal

good luck with the new whip

Pretty much. I saw my boy at a party and he tells me he knows a dude with an s14 shell and an SR thats just not in the car for $2k. We go check it out the next day and it ends up being an s13 with an SR already in it, and after talking to him and everything i ended up getting it for $1500

Tommarow morning im waking up and me and my friends are doing work on this car and cleaning it up. Then once i get the parts together im gonna make this thing come alive!

So i did a lil bit of work today on it earlyer. Imma take pics after this cuz im not sleepy yet lol

I took the hood off and put that away so i could clean up the engine bay and figure out whats goin on. I found the bit of rust that im gonna have to fix. I vaccumed the seats and carpet completley and took out the trunk carpet and the seats and cleaned everything up and all that

As far as the rust goes, the hatch is straight since its wingless and doesnt have a wiper either, but has a tiny bit of rust on the underside that youl see when i get the pics. Then the other bit is underneath the spare tire, but it definatley seems like it can be fixed up. Then other than that its pretty much good.

The deal with it is it was the kids sisters car that got passed down to him. It only has 93k on the chassis, but its been sitting in front of the house on the street for the past year or so. He got an SR20 for cheap that he pretty much rebuilt, and got basic parts like a sidemount and everything to put it together. He got as far as getting the actual SR in the car with the transmission, but the swap isnt complete and everything from the engine bay is missing.

He has a lot of the parts, its just not installed, and im gonna throw out the junk ones and get new/ish ones depending on what it is to finish the swap.

At this moment the cars not my daily, so im gonna take my time with it and do it the right way. I learned a lot on my last 240 and realized all the dumb s*** and everything lol so this ones gonna be a fresh start now that im a year older and a lil wiser.

I vaccumed it as best as i could, im gonna shampoo the carpet and everything and get it as clean as i can tommarow. As you can see the dash is cracked, but im gonna worry about that later.

The s14 seats the car came with were just like the ones in my old s14 lol, just not as good condition. There not bad, but i gotta shampoo and clean em as well

SR20!!

The carpet isnt too bad for how old the car is. The back end of it is kinda dirty from the rust your gonna see in a little bit, or atleast thats what im guessing its from

Underneath it isnt too bad, other than the spare tire well.

That thing that covers the spare tire was all soggy and gross so im just using the one from my s14. The spare tire on the underside looked like it had orange dhiarhea (sp?) all over it.

This is the only rust on the hatch, which doesnt seem bad at all

Then i got some in the front of the engine bay where the bumper bolts on. Im gonna take the bumper off and get rid of all of it, and possibly clean up the paint job in the engine bay.

Anyways, any tips from experience on getting rid of this rust would be greatly appreciated lol

The rust looks pretty gross, so i want to clean it up and spray over it with some stuff, but i gotta do some reasearch to figure out what the best method is. Any suggestions?

here is what i would do in your situation.

i would first worry about getting that sr running and moving properly so you can get that off your mind. it may not have been built right or run properly so i would find out what you are working with first.

second, rip everything out of that car, including the engine/transmission and please give that engine bay a proper spray. as far as the rust goes, you cant really tell the full picture untill you have your interior completely out, the carpet, backseats, even the dash, etc...

some pics of the rust you just need to have cut out (sawzall works great if you dont have the proper cutting tools and on a budget, just be careful they like to run away from you), have have metal welded in place. as far as the trunk goes, lets hope its just surface on that side, if its underneath as well, you might be in trouble with the rear subframe and gas tank straps having any sort of strength.

good luck on your project, you have a lot ahead of you, hope it works out.

Before i get the car running, i need to get an SR radiator which i found for $50, then i need hoses, and some missing stuff in the engine bay. In a few days im gonna take a better look at all that stuff with sombody who knows there s***.

In the mean time i just wanna clean up the car and atleast get a temporary solution for that rust so when im driving it around its atleast not compleltey gross

minus the stains, it looks "decent". i think a good shampoo and some fabric dye will look great.

yep, i would make the sr20 priority number one but i would take the engine and trans out to detail and repaint the engine bay, I just detailed mine with my motor out and i cleaned a s*** load of grease and dirt off everything, something you can't do while the engine is in there....the rust doesn't look like a serious, dangerous issue so i wouldn't really worry about it for the time being. Just get that sr20 running perfect on stock boost, daily it then start worrying about the rust and other cosmetics like the cracked dash, etc...

We've used this stuff called naval jelly on rust before and it works great. Wear gloves and let the jelly sit on the rust for a good while before washing it off and watch the rust disappear before your eyes!

Nice project. Looks like what us noreasters deal with. That's a really odd spot to rust on the hatch. It's part of the weatherstripping seal for the hatch, so that explains the rust in the spare tire well, well that and because hatch tails like to leak too.At the hinges for the hatch nissan didn't really spray as much paint as you'd hope back in the day, they also left underneath those hinges bare metal. Take your hatch off and give it some prep and paint love.

I'd seriously think about tearing the bottom end of the SR apart and checking torque on things if he did a full rebuild. Either that or I'd get to know the guy and see how thorough he is.Still a good steal man. Why don't you have your s14 seats? Did you scrap the whole thing?

Whats funny is i met a guy in my town with an sr s14 a while back, and the other day me and my friends were just chillin and tryin to figure out how the intercooler would bolt up. I give the guy a call and it turns out hes the one who rebuilt the engine and put it in the car. His dads a mechanic and an ex-rally driver and the kid knows his s*** lol. He pretty much told me the history of the car and the motor and what needs to be payed attention to, and were taking out the motor with the transmission tommarow or the next day to check everything out in detail cause the transmission might be seized, in which case ill get an SR transmission.

Anyways heres some pics of a couple days ago before all this when i washed it and cleaned it up cause i had to get it out of the garage for some people to inspect my attic. I also took the wire brush to the rust in the spare tire well and cleaned up the wheels.

Check it out. Me and my boy did work today. We pulled the engine and transmission out, and swapped out the ebay turbo with a stock garrett t25 with barley any miles on it, re routed the oil and coolant lines and bolted it up to the manifold and put it back on. We also took off the clutch and flywheel and put the engine on a stand

Reason for swapping the turbos, for 1 i trust garrett more than some random off brand. 2,the oil lines were reversed from top to bottom.

Heres the ebay turbo off the car, its for sale if anyone wants it. Its never been used yet and theres nothing wrong with it.

While the engine is out of the car, im thinking about giving the engine a quick respray cuz the paint job in there right now is horrible. You simply clean and degrease, and then primer over and follow with high temp paint?

be sure to get all that degreaser out or your paint wont stick.

if you can. hit some spots with a bit of sand paper.180-320gritthen prime, then spray

weather or not you plan on rattle caning your engine bay or painting it with a gun. bad prep will result in crappy paint.

Nice find tho.do a compression test on the SR??that would be my first order of business

ha. i am no longer SR20de+t..blew that sucka!rockin a KA now

The dude thats helping me with all this is the one who actually put the engine in for the kid and everything. Its rebuilt, and is done right, just the kid who actually owned the car didnt care about it and just let it sit in front of his house for like a year and half. He said the car didnt look anywhere near as bad when he put the engine in and the car was actually in decent shape lol

theres a few things i still need. A crank angle sensor, a BOV and a flange, a fuel pump, a new under drive pulley, and then im gonna swap all my brakes and s*** from my s14

does it matter what kind of primer i use? I was thinking rustoleum primer, and then rustoleum paint, because thats what im gonna use for the inside of the car under the carpet and everything

do i need to get high temp paint and primer for just the engine bay?
