hey guys, this is my first time posting on this forum, heres my story.

So im going to be getting my license soon and i was asking a few buds for a nice, quick car, and they all pretty much suggested a 240sx SE. i looked it up and it looks like these are nice cars! not too expensive, a crapload of upgrades, etc etc.

so i started getting into the whole "cars" scene. learning about engines and weight and LSDs and other stuff like that. i dont know a lot, but im getting there. so anyway, my plan is to get a nice 240sx, and if it didn't arleady come with it, get a swap to an SR20DET. i have friends who work in a car shop that say they can do a lot of the work for me. i was just wondering about what i should do after upgrading to the sr20, and how much i would be spending total before im done with the base upgrades (ie the engine swap). i really dont want a car that my parents will be afraid of me driving in, but i want to be able to like, back up some of the **** i'll be talking to my friends who drive mustangs and their little civics. oh...and i have an addiction of that feeling of acceleration when your on the entry ramp on the free way...i love it.

i hope i dont get flamed, i'm really excited about the 240, i point them out to my friends whenever i see them on the street, and now they hit me whenever i talk about turbo chargers, rear wheel drive or anything else that involves this car . lol thanks for all the help guys.

1. you want an illegal motor.2. i already don't trust you.3. get a 240sx and do basic things. tune-up*4. wait 5 years, then attempt to modify it.

Haha, yeah, with that kind of attitude you're just asking for trouble. What motor you want is entirely up to you; whether you go SR20DET, KA24DET, RB20DET, etc etc. What you want to do to modify your car depends on what you want your car to do. Be smart and be safe. Not to generalize, but you seem to have the typical new driver mindset and that can get you killed. No one wants that.

And to go along with what PGBrian is saying, first you want to learn to drive your car, doing basic things like tune-up, maybe intake/header/exhaust/spark plugs/wires just things here and there will add up.

lol thanks guys, and i was posting the above with a light attitude, but when im behind the wheel im a lot more serious then how i act in public lol. i do have value for my own life. but thanks for the concern, its nice to know that people give a crap.

i talked it over with a couple friends, and im gonna go with a KA24de, and eventually turbo it after learning how to drive a stick well and how to handle the RWD (i heard its a lot different that FWD, and im used to that lol) so keep the advice comin, i appreciate all the help.

oh if anyone is in the everett/lynnwood area in washington, maybe we can hook up and you can show off your ride to me, i know that sounds a little stalkerish but i dont bite .

wow... more kids these days talking about getting a "swapped 240"

Don't mean to flame you or anything but get your DL...drive for a while..

get to know your car... get to know your goal with the car.

learn...so much to learn with your brand new license... I have seen toooooo many kids getting "swapped 240's" and then totaling them because they don't know what the hell they are doing.

take everything one step at a time and you shall be rewarded at the end..

good luck with your project!

lol i know i sound like a stupid kid, and trust me, i think i am a stupid kid (it comes with the age -sigh- its not my fault) so no big deal dude. a lot of my friends brag about how quick their cars are, i just wanna be able to shove it back in their mouths...lol its not really as simple as that, but i have a LOT of friends that have cars and i've always been the younger one, i just want something that i can brag about lol. also i like to impress the ladies...so this car will help with that lol.

and yes i plan on getting to know the ride before i touch it in any way, im not gonna buy it, then the next day blow a crap load of money on something i have no idea how to control or take advantage of. im gonna give myself time to fall in love with my car stock (or however i buy it) lol.

also i heard turboing a ka24 is illegal...is this true?

i only turn 18 at the end of october, but i know how to control a car like this because i race scca solo I and ive been to both driving and racing schools at Watkins Glen, now i have much better feel for my car. I highly recommend a driving school ta a track like this, it helps you both with normal everyday driving, and it helps when you are driving on the edge.

I would begin to look for a car if I were in your position. People are gonna flame because you are new to the scene and want a 240sx. Be it as it may, if you want one, get one. Then mod the crap out of it.

You know they don't make turbo kits for all ka240de's right? The lowest year is 95.

GReddy kit is CARB legal I believe. Find out about how strict emissions are in your area. Around here we only have sniffer tests, no visuals. Guys give him some credit, he wants to learn to drive the car before he ups the power, and he's starting to sway to KA-T haha. Well good luck finding one, take your time, find one in good shape and try to bargain as the 240s are selling over blue book price these days. So be patient, they're worth it. With RWD you have to be patient with the throttle on when the roads are slippery or your tires will just spin and on turns you could end up spinning out or... a power over "drift" ;]

Oh my, and where are my manners? Welcome to NICO, for anything Nissan related, this is the place to be.

lol thanks a lot doomed2walk, i plan on becoming a regular to these forums and learn as much as i can about the 240. so the lowest year i can turbo is a 1995? or thats the year of the engine? and i heard that putting a turbo on a ka is way more expensive than just swapping to the sr20. i decided on staying with the ka cuz i heard that 2.4 turbo has more displacement or whatever (LOL my friend said that there is "no replacement for displacement") anyway, just keep this topic alive, i like learning about this car and trying to anticipate what driving it will be like.

Welcome man. Glad to see you changed your mind from swapping. I won't flame you for wanting a 240 or an SR...HOW CAN WE BLAME YOU? it's an AWESOME car. but like they said you have to know your car's limits and your limits.turboing the KA would definitely be a good idea. My friend's big bro leaves turbo civic's in his dust (and he didn't turbo his KA yet, around christmas it's gonna happen.)

Turboing a KA in the long run (it's been speculated) costs around the same as getting an SR swap. Considering you have to buy the SR, factor in shipping and installation for it....then compare that to buying and installing a turbo kit.

Get your 240, learn about it, have FUN come back and share your stories just don't kill yourself man... I think that goes for everyone aroudn here.

No but everyone just goes around and spreads lies that they have no real knowledge of. Just because they're TRYING (or atleast were) doesn't mean it's legal yet.

You want legal? Keep your car stock.

Its not so much how much value you put in your own life, but think of other people. It may not be your life that you ended it could very well be somebody elses. You have to ask yourself "If I kill comebody because I decided to race this person, can I live with that?" Dont be in such a hurry to modify something you cant control. I am not saying that you be reckless or dangerous by any means, but you have to be ready to accept the consequences of your actions. Honestly when I got my 240, the first things I looked to change were the suspension/handling, and the brakes. What good is an engine swap if you cant steer or control it? Just my 2 cents. But welcome to the forums and congrats and finally reaching the age of driving, but remember that it is a privilige and not a right.

Oh, wasn't aware the GReddy kit didn't meet CARB standards. Just GReddy advertises a lot and a lot of their products are CARB legal so I guess it just got jumbled in my head. Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up.

Well Ive learned that cars that we like arnt the cars that girls like with chrome 19s neon lights, storbes, airplane wings..... *sigh*

I was young and bought a body kit as the first mod i did to my car... believe me dont do stupid sh** like that and regret it like I do... I suggest your spend your money on susp/brakes before you make your car go fast... Its nice to have a nice platform before your turbo the car.

Keep it clean and simple.

Only if they're looking for a ***. Seriously though, you're on the right track. Just start looking for a car in decent shape and enjoy it. Get a nice fart can and some bling rims if you're wanting to impress the ladies Learn to drive, be safe, enjoy.

ok so the body kit is just for fun, im probably not going to do anything of the sort to my car. but seriously, girls around here dig fast cars a lot, i don't know why, its just how they are. a lot of women i talk to think that BOV's are sexy....lol i never thought of it that way but i guess it works ^.^

Not to seem mean or anything, but get a Civic. If you're going to get a 240 based simply on it's apearance and sex appeal. Why don't you just get a civic, get a "turbo" muffler tip so all the chicks can swoon.

by the time you get your car all modded up to "sexy" status, the girls' taste would have probably moved up to "beemer" status :P do it for yourself, not the ladies : ) good luck with finding a car.
