I kept a spare coil harness for just such an instance.

i have the splitfire setup on my RB and i love them. never spits. never cuts out at high rpms. i would say there worth the money atleast to have the assuarance of knowing your coils wont fail on a hot track day

I have used Splitfires on SR's and RB's and nearly everytime I had misfire problems... I think their coils are junk and will never use them. In fact I installed a set of the Okada Project coils in an RB26 to replace a set of Splitfires that were ****ing up. A bonus with the Okada coils are that the igniter is built in to the coils, and wiring is cake. Also when I talked to the Okada Rep that hooked me up with the coils they said you can use the HKS DLI or any other form of ignition amplifier in conjunction with their coils. As for power increases, the motor originally dynoed 400whp and after the coilpacks averaged about 3 hp more. My final thoughts on them are that its a great product with a lot of R&D work behind them, but I would only use them if I had to, ie busted stock coil packs.

splitfires appear to be nothing more than blue stockers...the set on mine seemed that way...as far as misfire the only time it breaks up is when afrs dive below 10:1 but if i can boost thru 11:1 @ 22psi and do a clean pull to redline then something is definately wrong.i say its voltage supply...try running a direct feed for coil power to the battery instead of thru the ign harness like everyone seems to do.

First things first, I just wanted to update this thread. I eventually had a chance to run a dedicated (relay switched and fused) 12V power from the battery to the coil harness, as well as a dedicated battery ground to the coil harness.

As I suspected my issue was definitely ignition related. Using the stock wiring I was able to get 17 psi reliably before it would begin to break up. Now that I have rewired the power and ground I am able to run 20 psi without breaking up and anything over that seems to have issues.

So the rewire definitely helps get every last bit of spark energy out of the existing coils. Additionally it also solidified that my issue was spark and not fuel related. I will be doing a retrofit of 6 individual LS2 coils (non wastespark), hopefully by the end of the week which should easily hold me over into the high boost range. I suspect the LS2 coils will be more than enough to take me to the point where my (mostly) stock internaled 26 would fail anyways.

my splitfires came in today. i'll toss them in on the current setup (just gonna check the plugs, no regap and keep the current wiring) and see how they perform this weekend or earlier. good to hear about that rewiring of the ign harness though. i may give that a shot in the future

update to this. checked my plugs.. gapped around .7-.8 (didn't measure), iridium 7's with the splitfiress in. plugs have maybe 5k on them with bad tunes here and there so they are most likely somewhat fouled. breakup is still there, running 18 psi. did not try to lower the boost any to see if it will go away. i did notice that the breakup sound is slightly different. the missing is much less and not as "bad" if there is such a thing. the car does not jerk as bad and it sounds different than the breaking up i was experiencing with the stock coils. it's hard to describe but breaking up is still there.

had a friend watch the batt voltage while driving, it is pretty solid and doesn't drop off. also hooked a jumper box to my battery to see if that would help the breaking up just as an additional capacitor. no luck.

going to try new copper bcpr7es's for the track day coming up on friday gapped down to .6mm and will report back.

something else to note is that i accidentally broke off a small ring terminal connector that grounds to the ignitor. it's a very small gauge ground but i dont think that is the issue here. i'll obviously reconnect that and see if it helps.

I ended up going through several iterations of the different options. Replacing the wiring harness was a definite improvement in idle. I then replaced all the coils with superspark, but in the process I managed to fry a wire, a coil, and the igniter. (it was an epic failure on my part). Instead of buying all of that again I decided to eliminate the igniter and go with the Okada Direct Coils. I am running stock gap now for the plugs, idle is great and zero hickups under high boost. You do have to cut the connector going into the igniter and install some connectors so it isn't completely a plug and play deal.

6 year buuuummmppp. I am also having problems with spark and wondering what seems to be the best solution without doing a ls coil swap.
