Are we talking realistically or without any budget constraints?

If we're going for realistic, I'd sell my S13 and probably pick up a decent IS300 or an E46. I'm actually strongly considering it....

If money ain't an option, to the Benz dealership I go.

or maybe a little smaller...

I'm pretty positive that he was going for realistically from his post title and posts, some people went for the dream car route though.

If we're going for the dream car route, i'll take one of these as well :fap:

Realistically, if I were to ditch the Prelude, I'd probably be shopping for a corvette, a BMW 3 series (possibly a 1 series), MAYBE an altima coupe if they offered new engines by that time, accord coupe, the new Toyotaru, genesis coupe if they put the high output turbo 4 banger in it (268 hp?) and I'd even test drive a cobalt SS.

Well if you want quick, get a Z06.

If you want quick and happen to also want ugly, get a GTR.

LOL, yep.

If you're looking to have your factory warranty voided for using launch control or taking your car to the track, get a GT-R.

If you're looking for minimal driver involvement while driving fast, get a GT-R.

Nice choice! :yesnod I've always felt that I'll have lived an empty automotive life if for some (even brief) period of time I don't have an old 911(hopefully with a Targa top) sitting in the garage.

Realistically though, if I were to ditch the Z it would be to get a new(er) 370Z or if I were looking to move away from the hamburger marquee I'd most likely go for a Cayman S.

Driving an old 911, no one will ever say "ha! I bet you wish you could've afforded a 911!"

But you can't buy good taste.

thank goodness Nissan has got with the times and they no longer void warranty for turning off VDC or using LC, they just ask that after repeated launches you take a break to keep from hurting your neck... :spitout:

We're on your side. We usually buy used and to fit what we foresee our needs will be. For over 30 years we had a small daily commuter-type car and a larger transport/hauler in the driveway. After we gave our son our 1994 Civic as a "going in the Air Force/wedding gift" my wife insisted on buying a new car for a change and she really wanted a Nissan. So, we bought the Versa new.

If we parted with the Versa right now we would probably go back to a used Civic. Both cars have been pretty equal mechanically and while the Versa is better on creature comfort the Honda dealer in this area rips all the Nissan dealers to shreds when it comes to customer service and support.

In about 5 years our daily driver needs will totally change. The wife will retire and one of our two remaining kids at home will be off to college. The other one will be starting to drive and I don't anticipate still being the primary care and transport for my elderly parents who live 20 miles away. We'll re-evaluate and decide what to do then. I have a feeling that by then we'll have a host of new things to select from, especially in the electric/hybrid area. We'll be in our 60s then and I think the wife will probably want to go "new car" again since it might be the last car we buy.

if i didn't have to sometimes lug family around, it'd be an s2000. but since everyone complains about my car only having 2 doors and small back seat area, while forgetting the big trunk space i have for such a small car. Mando, i hear what ya sayin about 2014. my next job is in preparation for that and to also get me a "family car". so basically my next cars should be an r32 and something with 4-doors, RWD/AWD, and enough room to lug 4 passengers around comfortably...most likely a '99+ gs300.

A base 91' Brilliant Black Miata with no engine.
Get some Ohlins suspension under it, seam weld it, and brace the s*** out of it.
Then stuff an LS2 and related drivetrain in it.
Daily drive it.
At least that's the plan...
I won't be requiring a car for the next couple of years so why the hell not?

To Mike's original question - Z06 or another LSx based product. You're in KY after all, there should be plenty of "customers" for LSx products and such.

For me, I'd get an S4 (B6) Avant, preferably silver or white

Honestly I have a few things I'm mulling over (being realistic, mind you, but not necessarily practical).

Scenario 1 (the fun one): Sell Altima and find a decently cheap daily driver that is fun. Likely go with a B15 Spec V (I miss mine and think about that car all the time). That opens up the garage for one of the following garage-queen candidates:
1) (new or used) Nismo 370Z
2) (used) Audi S5 (AWD 6MT N/A V8 encased in pure sheet metal hotness? yes, please.)
3) (used) 06-08 Aston Martin Vantage V8 (~60-65k in the Atlanta area quite often).
4) (used) GT-R (but likely not. As sick as it is, I can't bring myself to part with a true MT again unless it's a truck. On top of that, I would want to drive it too much and the maintenance is just way too high even though I could afford the car itself - I.E. OEM front rotors are around $1200 a pair, transmission service is HIGH, etc.)

Scenario 2: Keep Altima Coupe. Buy Drum-mobile.
1) Nissan Frontier SE Crew Cab
2) Nissan Titan Pro-4X
3) Late model Jeep Wrangler Rubicon + Trailer

Scenario 3: Wait until MY 2013 and re-evaluate the following -
1) Z refresh
2) G Sedan and G Coupe redesign
3) Scion FR-S (depending on price of gas and how much money I want to spend on a car)
