After looking at the catalog & talking to the other guys here (Techs & Parts Guys), we beleive that it will only come with the throttle chamber assembly. Here is why...

It doesn't look like the bottom of that part is removeable from the assembly. I put a call into the factory to make sure, I'll probably have a response tomorrow. I will keep you psted!-Joe

Did you look at FE-4 in the FSM?

Look at the throttle cable adjustment procedure. Maybe a 1998 is different, but I would bet not. Did you have Joe look it up under that name?

What is between the red lines is the throttle drum.

Falk if they cant find a seperate part for it you could just try dousing it in like RTV or something to keep it sealed?

A new TB would be VERY expensive new maybe you could find a junkyard one...

Brian, I looked it up in the parts program (same as Joe) and the only thing that it comes up with is the TB gasket, throttle chamber, TPS, and some other module computer thing...

Oh, I am sure either one is part of an assembly, and not available individually.

Damnit! That part is NOT WELDED to anything else. It's held on with the Two screws you can see, and that's it. Where you guys drew the red lines marked welded, it's not connected there at all.

The funny thing is usually the diagrams are VERY specific and are detailed..... BUT NOWHERE (I searched for an hour at least) did it show this part..... Its the mystery throttle vacuum stopper opener closer thingy.....

Ok, I traced out the exact part, nothing else is connected to this. The nuts at the end of the plunger are on the throttle, not the plunger. God I hope we can figure this out!

That, my friend, is the throttle opener. Dollars to Donuts, it's part of the throttle assembly.

I just got to thinking, and you might try and replace hte vacuum line. that small stuff is only like $1/ft from Joe.. Maybe theres a leak in it somehwere...

I bought 4 feet of it at one time and Ive almost used it all... It comes in handy all the time!

Brian is correct- Nissan officially calls that part the 'throttle opener'[it holds the throttle partially open when vacuum is released from the solenoid valve].see ITB 99-039b.I still maintain that you ask a gearhead over 40 [I realise that excludes a lot of this boards membership...]what a dashpot is and they would pick this part, but i digress......

Wes brings a valid point--don't overlook that it could be the hoze.

one way you could confirm if it is the throttle opener solenoid is by a hand vac pump, see if it holds the vauum or not. I'm surprised that Joe can't find the p/n for the solenoid by itself, but I also found this week in ordering some parts for the alty that his diagrams don't always show the p/n, even when there is a valid, discrete service part. But if you can get the p/n [may not be easy i know] then he will get a hit on the actual part.

one more thought: this solenoid looks like a commodity part [not worth specialty engineering for Nissan to internally design and manufacture it, as opposed to buying it from a supplier that might sell to many parties]. Perhaps a catalog search of vacuum actuators might yield a suitable replacement.

As members know by my name " Q45tech" I don't consider the Q41 or Cima A REAL Q45 so I almost never comment on its design ---never bother working with/on them either.

Preferring the 97-01 LS during that "lost time" foggy period [97-01].

Don't even bother keeping a Q41 FSM for those years at home.

It's too bad that you feel the 97-01 Q45 is inferior, I personally love the looks, motor and everything else about it, asside from the difficulty I'm having finding this part. I also prefer the look of this Q over the first and third gen Q's, but you know what they say about opinions...

I appreciate everyones input, asside from posting merely to put down the Y33 Q's, hopefully Joe can figure out what this is so I can replace it. I know it's not the hose, with a stethoscope on this part the sound is intense. It's got to be a pin-hole on the diaphram inside it that's the culprit.

Yeah, the FY33 is not a G50, but it is a damn nice car, and Infiniti should have called them what they were, a Q41. In some ways, they are a better car for an everyday driver than a G50, and for the cost, it is hard not to recomend them even over the 98-99 LS400. I will never go back to belt driven camshafts, ever.

One thing I do like about FY33 is the VH41DE. While not a screamer and not as optimized for performance as the VH45DE, it is as durable. What's really weird to me, is the bore is actually greater, so it is more oversquare than the VH45DE. With the correct intake manifold and exhaust headers, this would be an interesting engine in a lighter car. Too bad all years are OBD II.

Bump for Monday. Joe, did you get the stuff you ordered to see if you can nail this down? I think Maxnix is right about it being the throttle opener.

I put the cabin air filters in yesterday, very easy and straight forward. The ones that came out, OMG!! Black, I wonder if they ever got changed! It's nice to know that they do their job though, but I'll be changing them every year.

My comments were only in response to my [questioned] lack of response to the tread. I never said anything about inferiority.........just fraudulently misnamed!

Checked with the guys and no one has ever heard of a failure in this part?

lol, it's cool.

I'm suprised that it's bad too, but I tell you, you can hear the sound, then when you put the steth on it, it's magnified 100x and definitley coming from this, and when you pull the vaccum hose, it stops the noise. Do you know what it's called?

No, but I checked it and it's good. That line is all of 5 inches long, I wish that was it. Maybe I'll try it anyhow!!

There's a diaphram inside it and my guess is that the diaphram has a pin-hole.

Thanks, I called him yesterday.

Piece of crap stalled on the 405 S. today, so it's at the shop now. I'm starting to wish I'd kept my Honda.

Yeah, I know, I still love it. Just pisses me off, within a month of getting it I had to do 2 O2 sensors, now 3 months later it stops on the freeway. Fortunately, I was in the right lane doing my "get over at the very last second and pass 50 cars" trick so I didn't have to cross the freeway with no power.

Niether of the two possible parts from the catalog that look anything like it are correct. So I will have to say you will be looking at the assembly :(
