Nice Ben glad to see you jumped on this build quick after we were talking a few weeks ago on AIM. sux the only thing I wouldn't have gotten was those darton sleeves if it was my block to build I would have used LA sleeves but those dartons will get the job done. I'm also building my SR block right now as well ill make a thread later after more parts are in! I'm glad you went with Mazworx, their like the SR gods in the USA.

Get a AEM EMS, much more useful and easier then a PFC IMO :P spend the extra money!

So you got the 9:1 cp pistons 90mm? and this is better for what now? I thought you would want the stock compression 8.5:1? Ben shine some light since you already talked to Mazworx

PICS PICS PICS LOTS OF PICS PLEASE!!! :P

dude jordan did you get banned from zilvia? lol what happend?

yes i talked to mazworx about the compression ratio. they said it would make tuning it easier with a 9 to 1 compression, and that it would also increase spool.

didn't say exactly why but that is what they told me.

i need to get my old block sent back to them for the core exchange. and i need to get some other stuff done so i can start assembling it.

thankfully i took my last final and am now on spring break. hopefully i ca nget some money for some extra parts now.

yes full race gt3076 kit. planing ot make power from about 3500-8000 with a nice flat torque curve and any where from 450-500 rwhp on pump gas.
DriftBoy07 wrote:Idaho when you did your oil drain tube->turbo, did you seat the studs into the turbo?
seat the studs. the oil drain on my gt2871 i just used copper spray-a-gasket and tightend down the oil return to waht i thought i would work good.

I'm planning on doing this as well, but I don't think this would be the #1 option as far as user friendliness goes.

I might sound like a noob when I ask but whatever-how much do standalones generally cost? How hard is it to self tune?

If you don't know anything about tuning, it's quite hard to do by yourself. Each system varies, but the average standalone for the SR is 1400-1700 dollars, depending on what you get with the kit, i.e. sensors... Tuning is something that I would leave to the professionials. I'm sure I could do it, but I'd rather pay someone else to blow my motor up, that way I get a new one fo free should they mess up...

Stripes wrote:Personally, I find it much more respectable to build the absolute piss out of an SR. I used to glorify the ls swap until I read Brian Wilkersons build thread on ziptied. Wow...... really make me want to get another SR
Respectable in which way? To prove you have more money?

Dollar per dollar, thta LS1 is going to provide more managable, cheaper, and more power than our SR's will.

Trust me, my car is fun. 411/335 on a 2871 .64 is a absolutly smile inducing ride, but the fact remains I'd rather have 400 whp/400ft lbs ls1/ls2 under the hood. Heck cam only ls1's do that....so f***in simple.
idahotuner wrote:
yes and no. the main problem started when i did the burnouts.i just ran it to long in 1st gear.

before that the car was set up perfectly.
1st gear has nothign to do with the motor blowing. It has the least amount of load on the motor as well....and with a burnout even less.

Your tune or timing was way off. There is no other reason to melt down and destory a piston like that, unless it's detonating/preigniting (well, there are, such as when the large manifold grommet was blasted up around the injector (extreme lean condition). Oh well.

But seriously, not trying to put you down or anything, but you had something wrong in there. All those little pit marks are like detonation graffitt marks....whether you want to accept it or not is not for me to care about, as I know what causes them. Id' be willing to bet that any long pulls in 3rd/4th gear did the main damage...heck even a trained hear wont' hearing a ping at thta RPM...just to much noise going on. On top of that, our knock system does not even register there.

Ah, that's freakin cool man. What school? I've always wanted to travel to the southern WA / Northern OR coast line....
idahotuner wrote:
yes i agree. except methanol injection is something i am going to look into and aem is capable of that. we will see.
Meth injection is great stuff, but not somethign to rely upon. Make it safe at the octane level first, and then use meth to makeit all happy. During a track day, most turbo cars get sluggish towards the end of the day (or even worse in the summer)...click on the water injection and it's like a cold fall day all over...plus our exhaust smells minty haha.

Love the progress though. Sleeved block is big boy...surprized you're not going 35r.

yeah you made some good points.

the school is walla walla university.

the gt35 is a sweet turbo. and the thing is its how of the rang i want to do. or at least the rpm rang.

but then my over bore might bring it down into the range.

i know with the gt3076 i will make a soild 450 at the wheels it an awesome torque curve.

twin scroll and higher compression should help with spool too. comparison of the gt2871 .64 t oa gt3071

the ls1 would bea sick setup. but that would kinda defeat the purpose of beating up on v8s lol.
