I'm 19 as well. I got my Z about four months ago. Being on NICO has helped me learn so much more about them.

Before this car I had a 89 Toyota Celica which I bought for $500 and built and beat up on a regular basis. That was the car that helped me learn everything. It was a lot cheaper to get a new turbocharged engine and all the usual goodies.

The Z is not a Toyota or a Honda, much more expensive. The beginning price tag is not too small either. Like hamman said EVERY mod on these cars is gonna give it a little more go than the econoboxes.

man! i kinda wish i was spoiled so my parents would at least pay for my gas! im just lucky i dont have to pay for living expenses, all i pay for is gas, school, and whatever i wanna do to my car... but the california life is def. not cheap!! thats why im looking at getting another car for a daily because this z is eating wholes in my wallet when it comes to gas... i could be getting a sweet deal on a 240 tho im still not sure how good those things do on gas... but as far as enlisting goes.... i dont think so

dude where did you live? i make 9.50 an hour and work 32 hours a week which equates to 304 a week i get payed every 2 weeks so thats 608 every pay check about 4 weeks in a month thats 1216 a month be4 CALIFORNIA TAX! so minus taxes and all the other goodies the gov. takes out of my check id say im making about 1170 a month minus about 250 for gas for the month equals about 920 spending money which may sound like good money but you never know when life's gonna through you a curve ball rite! so if i spent all of my 920 spending money on my car it would take me about 4 months be4 id have enough money to afford the tt clip for my engine swap let alone the labor seeing as im not skilled enough or well equiped enough to do the swapp.. now i dont know if you lived alone when you were surviving on this 7.50 an hour but out here in cali a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom in the ghetto is gonna cost you about 900 minus utilities!

Yeah it's not cheap out there I know. Glad I don't live out there, weather is nice and all but really I love texas just fine. It dosen't cost nearly that much to live here. Like 900 dollars will get you a REALLY good apartment.

Well, right now I am making $9.25/hour and all I pay is insurance and cell ($85/month for both, parents help on insurance) and student loans ($116/month). I hardly ever drive my Z, so about the only gas I buy is for my 200SX, which gets 35mpg and only takes 87 octane gas.

But when I first got my Z, I was making $200/month car payments and $125/month insurance and cell payments, and my Z was my daily driver. The only way I made it was because I was working 35+hours a week at $7.50/hour, which left me gave me about $775/month after taxes, $200 went to car payment, $125 went to insurance, so that left me with $450/month for gas and spending money. I was spending about $250/month on gas, so that left me with $200/month for spending money.

And the reason I could afford it? I DIDN'T DO ANY UPGRADES TO MY Z! Thats the main problem I see everyone making when they are just making payments, they are trying to put upgrades on their car when they don't need to, so that makes them go broke. Just manage your money and don't spend it where you don't have it and you will be fine. I learned to manage my money when I was 14.

I'm 25 now.

I saved up for years as I fell in love with the Z32 in 1990 when I was younger....there's a story to it but I'll spare you.

Anyway, I bought my TT when I was 19.

22, and if you can afford a Z with 9$/hour you live with mommy and daddy and shouldn't be complaining about the cost of living at all.

Insurance is 600$/year for liabilty + theft/fire/vandalism

I was debt free and in my own apartment when I was 19, driving my paid off 86 exp! on my $7 hour I was making at that point (remember we're talking 94? so that was pretty good money), couldn't afford a sports car and it would have been impractical anyhow

dude you dont think that was just a little bit uncalled for? you dont have to be living on your own to appreciate the fact that housing in california is overpriced... im not sure if you think your better than me because your older and more independant but i could care less what you think about me so keep it to yourself...

y cant we all just get along
