Go for the Honda Civic Stick. Economical to operate and maintain. Get some insurance quotes prior to purchasing any vehicle. Insurance companies have plenty of data. Read Consumer Reports and listen to car talk on NPR every weekend. Check back here frequently.

Go with your dreams

If you are really into automobiles why not consider an automotive career?Well trained automotive technicians can now earn six figure salaries.Take some basic physics and electrical courses while you are in high school.Speak to a few automobile service managers and top technicians as to where they went to school. Also check with your school guidance counselor. Many of todays automobiles are so complex you need skilled computer training and expensive diagnostic tools and equipment to properly repair them.

Hey once Hillary becomes president a smart female can surely fix a malfunctioning G or even a dying Mustang while earning a nice salary. A 401k is a retirement tax deferred plan. If you earn enough money in your early years and start saving early, by the time you are 50 perhaps you can start to pursue other dreams such as world travel?

Good luck

What is the name of the restaurant in Portland that is a converted ferryboat on the water? I ate there a few years ago and the lobster was outstanding. i can't remember the name of it? Probably another senior moment

Yeahs, Honda Civics aren't bad but I think RSX are nice. Haha. They actually have that here, a special program at a different school called PATHS (Portland Arts and Technology High School). They have all kinds of classes there including the auto motive one. As for the 401k plan, I was totally thinking about that when my brother was here in the country but he went back to Japan because he's in the Air Force.

That restaurant is called Dimillo's. Haha, I always walked by there because I'm always getting Bubble Tea at Bubble Maineia :p

Im actually really partial to the new Smart ForTwo. They are running around Indianapolis. Look real awesome in that wierd way. But i digress.
Imma fly over there and beat you with a honda part. Probably a stock bumper or a fiberglass one that fell apart off of a civic (G35 style) body kit.

Those fortwos are a joke. They are ugly, get ridiculously low MPG for their size and barely passed crash tests IIRC.

Most of your advice was good. WTF is this about learn to drive in a wrong wheel drive? That is terrible advice. I learned to drive in a small truck with no weight in the back. It was the best way to learn how to handle a vehicle. Find a lonely dirt road, and DRIVE!!!

You will learn how to drive, recover from oversteer, and get an idea of how to drift all at the same time. However back then, it wasn't called drifting, no one had heard of such a thing. It was ses sliding the car... LOL.

Personally I say if you want to learn how to drive a car instead of how to steer and step pedals, get 5 speed rear wheel drive.
Considering that I was in her position much more recently than you...

Kimly may be a great driver, but the likelihood is that she will be jittery for the first few months to a year. Driving a RWD beast in Maine? Come on Noah. Despite our desire to make every woman out there a race car driver, you and I both know, she'd probably wrap an S13 around a pole.

$#IT even I would, and I consider myself an above average driver.

The improved fuel economy and the ability to "Pull" yourself out of a bad situation make the wrong wheel drive car more practical.

Kimly, I'd be careful with the Tegs (Integras) I drove the base model and I wanted to die. It was slower than riding a tired donkey in the desert. The LS and Type R are supposed to be much faster, but I'm not a big fan of V-tech. The power band is too small.

The RSX type S would be a great starter car. Insurance will absolutely kill you, but it has a 6 speed manual and pushes around 200 HP in the upper RPM range.

My last piece of advice. Do like I did. Get an older Infiniti or Lexus sedan in good condition. Spend a little on some power adders and roll around with your friends envy. Why?

You'll have a luxury car (Leather, premium sound, power everything...etc)You'll be able to seat 4 other people instead of 1 or 3Your car will out perform 90% of the civics, tegs, eclipses...

You'll also benefit from lower insurance premiums if you can buy one cash and only get liability coverage.

yeah, my first car was a 1995 STS. Dirt cheap maintenance (not repairs) and insurance. PLUS, it looked like sex and went like stink, all while having leather, heated seats, and a HEATED WINSHIELD. man, i miss that beast.

Haha, I'm always driving so fast in my mom's Honda Accord. I guess I'm an okay driver, but when it comes to my mother in the car with me is madd annoying!

The Teggys, I suppose I should be careful. My boyfriend has that so I might as well just get myself a RSX. The insurance, blah.. my mom can pay that for me, or I'll just pay half lol.

Yeahs, I agree with you. I envy the old cars, then I'll possibly try my best to make it look sexy and sound sexy haha.

*MORE ADVICES PLEASE!* This is absolutely great to learn more about this

The best advice I can give you is to use this;

If you continuously ask questions, and don't search for the answers, you usually won't get far. You are a semi attractive young girl, so most of the guys here are being really nice and very patient with you.

If you were a 16-18 year old guy who was asking questions like this, the typical resonse would be somthing along the lines of "postwhore" and "search"...

You may also check out the General Chat forum, people are more laid back, and open to chat about anything in there.

Just a heads up.

Totally, so like I'm basically thinking about getting a Honda Civic or a Acura RSX. I prefer more of the Acura RSX because I just think it's great for me.

I had an accident with my first car....i was making a left and a car decided to try to make the light....she was driving a 97 Camry and i had a Pontiac Bonneville an old HEAVY model...my car took the whole impact at like 60-65 on the passengers side and her car was completely smashed....its just a good thing no one was riding with me, because it could of been real bad....i think i was like 17

Now im going on 22 in Sept and im very glad to have had two cars before my G35 purchase...I learned a lot about control and how to drive with crazy LA peeps

Watch out saying that you drive fast. The guys who soup up there G's,make them much faster and handle better apparently don't drive over 65 and give you crap if you do. Although I don't think they will give you too much crap for obvious reasons

Get off your soapbox Magnet. It's not the occasional speeding that we aren't condoning, it's the street racing and posts about consistantly driving 100+ on the freeways. If you were to read clearly, you would see that it's not the speed of the car, it's the lack of safty to innocent people.

Also, if we allow such threads to go on without saying anything, it won't take long before we have a bunch of people posting for intrawebnetz fame of "oooh look at me I'm fast and furious"...

I am not saying that most of us don't drive in a way that breaks some laws, from time to time, or maybe regularly. We just don't post publicly about it, or we take it to the track.

Make sure your BF knows you're getting your car advice here and not from him.

That should make him feel all special.

Welcome aboard, and GL with your first car.

p.s. Statistically and stereotypically, you're already doomed to be a bad driver. More practice, less distractions. Be safe.

Instead of getting Honda/Accura, why not Nissan? After all, this forum is only called NISSAN and Infiniti car owners. As much as I agree with everyone else telling you to get a Honda, I'd say get a Nissan. You can find 240s for cheap and there is so much you can do to that car. Or with a little more money but still pretty cheap you can get a 300zx (twin turbo)

Dude, Imma slap you with your CF lip when I see you.

You want a 16 y/o girl with very little driving experience, who lives in Maine (think rain and snow) to drive a 300ZX TT?

We need to agree on a place for Saturday. I don't really care where it is. I'll be dropping a C-note on gas for the weekend anyways.

Funny story. I almost got into an accident by a typical LA driver (one hand on the phone the other smoking a cigarette) He tried making a right from the left lane while I'm on the right side and decides to yell at ME. I was like are you serious he even called the cops..... they took one look at the skid marks and let me go hahah

AZHitman, haha, yeahs I told my boyfriend about this forum. He thinks I'm really weird because I'm a girl, and I'm trying to get into car stuff. Well come on now, a girl gotta know 'some' stuff about cars lol especially the ones she digs (the G's) haha. He's such a dork, he goes to his little place at team-integra.net

Why the Nissan 300ZX TT? I think that's kinda too much for me as a little girl. Plus, I think it's not that sexy, haha. Oh, it can probably be fast or what not, i don't know much about it. Plus, it's probably not a great idea to drive those in Maine. Weather here sucks. Yeahs, I agree with the whole Nissan/Infiniti forum but people are just giving me great advices unlike my boyfriend thats like so into his teggy -.- So, I can't really talk to him about the G's.

I plan on racing with him once I get my own car. Haha but I gotta learn more.

I think they needed to give her a 6MT to drive. She reached for the shifter time and time again realizing it was an automatic just as she would touch the knob. I'd have preferred to see what she could do on a tighter course though.

Keep the racing on a track please. I've almost been hit a few times from cool kids in my town racing their civics, tegs, and v6 mustangs. I think most everyone here will agree on the keeping it on the track.
