Yep, the nissan dealer took me to the back where a new black GT R was being examined by a slew of techs. It was beautiful. The sticker was 73,000 with a 16,000 up charge, total was $89,000. It was available for sale and the salesman tried to get me to commit to a $1250/mo payment. (My G down) Yes they would have let me drive it if I was seriously considering buying it.

The techs were discussing the car and I heard them talking about the $6000 brake jobs the car would get when the time came for brakes.

The wheels had clear plastic over them as did everything in the interior. In reality, the car looked 100 times better in person than in the pictures. Now, $1250 per month. That's really not that bad if I sell the house and live in it.

It is really far prettier in person. If you get one, get the black.

Bob, if I were you, and they would have let me drive it, if I had been serious about buying it, I would have taken it for a test drive, and let them try to get a bank to okay it, knowing it would never happen.

That's how I drove a 2008 Z06 Corvette. Told them that the G was paid in full and my down payment. They ran the credit, and couldn't get it anywhere near the monthly payment of $650.

But it was one helluva test drive.

I pay $550/mo for the G & $300 on the versa.... $850 total

I could swing $1000 once the G & V are paid off..

Maybe when the markdown comes down... hmm...

Sooooo, its gonna go up?

Since these are in limited production, don't expect the price to come down. If anything it should go up and they might even appreciate over the next few years (not from the sale price, but from the value lost of driving it off the lot).

Nah... There were reports that they were selling for $115K..

his dealer wanted 89K...

I could swing 70k in 3 - 5 years..

I still don't know if I would rather have a porsche though..

heck I could get two cars... a used Lotus Elise and a Porsche Cayman for around 70k

We will see...

I was mainly pointing out the paradox of a markdown going down. Kinda like a double negative.

This is the 2nd one they had. The first was red (I never saw it) and it sold for $104,000. But it was sold before it ever got to the dealership. This one isn't sold, and they "only" marked it up $16,000. I may go back today to see what a 2 year lease goes for, just becasue I like to dream, but I'm not really doing it.

I have to say it again, the pictures you've seen of the car do not do it justice. It is way, way prettier in person. Maybe it was the black color, but it appeard smaller in person too.

As a side note, they were selling the last dozen Titans for about half price. We looked at 3 of the 4 door versions, and they stickered got $30,000+ and they were on sale for $16,995. Brand new Titans, for less than 17 thousand. They had a 06 G35 for $24,000 with 30k miles. An 06 coupe for $29,000 and an 04 sedan that I didn't look at.

I love visiting the car dealers and looking at the car candy.

Since you said you touched it everywhere, I'm just curious, for Jacko's sake, if it has a G spot?

You know, similarities to a G, besides the obvious general shape? Not what you're probably thinking...dirty mind.

I'd say one of the things that impressed me was the seats. These were black leather and they looked great. Infiniti seats are good, but they really don't have "the look" that the GT R had. The steering wheel was similar, with controls on the spokes, but it too was just a little classier. The dials and gauges were nice and sporty, but I like the G35 dials with that bluish purple glow.

The GTR is lower than the G. It seemed shorter too. The paint wasn't as deep as that on a lexus, but it was smooth and looked perfect - and black is really, really the way to go with that car.

The wheels were not that impressive. They had a clear plastic cover over them but just weren't pretty. Sort of a dark gray color. And the spokes are far enough out that you could easily scrape a curb with them parking the car. I'd give the wheels a -1, but that's about the only negative on the car. Chrome wheels would be +1, as well as a dark tint on the windows. The discs, both front and rear were large. The calipers are Gold, but that's just a little paint. The techs were talking about the brakes and how a brake job would set you back 6 grand.

Overall, it had the quality of a German car. Everything fit and nothing looked cheap. (except the wheels) There are little chrome things on the front side fenders that might be better left off but they didn't look bad. The hood still had that white plastic material covering it, so I couldn't really see the hood scoops.

The engine was really squeezed in and probably would be a PITA to work on. In retrospect, you had to really bend over to see it, so I'm thinking the car was lower than I thought.

The salesman explained the three mode options for driving. You can put the car in "little old lady" "normal" or "race" mode.

I nominate SVT to go drive one and do a Nico write up on it. And did I say that that black GTR really, really looks better in person than in any photo ever taken.

Judging from the pictures I'd seen, I didn't think I'd really like the car. However, now, I'd sell my kidneys for one of these things - as long as it was black. Better hurry, the salesdude said there were only 1500 coming our way.

If Jacko gets one, we'll never hear from him again unless, he'll never stop driving it.

Also, I don't think it has sat radio, at least, I didn't see an antenna. That might be a deal breaker.

Yep it is!!!!, Just got a call from the manager re: what it would take to "get you behind the wheel."

Here is their offer - $3000 down, $1400/mo for 60 months on a lease. Or, G down and $1250/mo to own (plus, as he said, "maybe a little cash too.") As they said, those numbers are real close as the actual payment won't be determined until the financing was approved. Damn, I'm really getting this burning urge to go rob a bank or something... that friggen car is 10 shades of beautiful.

I like the black... But in that car i think I would have to get silver... I tell you why... and that is the Wheels!

If I could get the wheels in Chrome the it would be BLACK all the way!

1250 a month isnt bad! But is that for like 100 months

It would be about 70 months or 65 months lol

To me, the GT R seems like a cool $50K car; not a cool $75K car...and definately not a cool $89K car.

It's a great car, maybe in five years when it's a $30K great used car...

i just spat coke. wow. are you serious? you must be joking. seriously? do you know anything about the GTR? I suspect it will remain sky high for quite some time. Maybe in 10 years it MAY be a 30k car. MAYBE. 6k USD brakes. Nitrogen filled tires. Engines paired with unique transmissions. Components unique to each car. Each engine is made in a hemetically sealed room, so the components do not microfracture during assembly.

that aint a vette. that aint a lexus. Thats one fantastic datsun.

Bob, I would LOVE to take one for a spin and do a write-up, but my local Nissan dealer knows me to well! Actually, they know my wife too and know that she would shoot me if I even considered one!

Sounds like YOU are the man for this task!!!

You've got them dangling the keys at you!!
