People spend so much money on high performance gear but don't actually need it. Like my friend just spent about 500 on The North Face jackets and vests and she doesn't ever step a foot outside of civilization.

Discuss. :p

Yeah. I completely agree. People who do things merely for appearances that they will never put to proper use irritate me. All that proves is that you are easily manipulated and give in to public opinion. Definitely not impressive. People do this with everything from clothes to cars to books to college classes. I feel like slapping them silly.

Haha, i know exactly what your talking about... but it aint getting that cold here yet. I visited where you live Saturday night in Philly, since me and some of my friends went to the civil war drift event, it was only about an hour away. I dont recommend going there iff you dont know your way around or havea tour guide, we got lost plenty of times and couldnt find Highway 95 S, and ended up in the ghetto a few times. other than that i loved the city

$500 got her a North Face Jacket AND vest?!!!

Their good parkas usually start around $350 or so. It is kinda lame to spend that kind of money if she's not going to use it...

On a side note, we've got snow already here in VT! The mountains look beautiful this time of year. The peaks are frosted and snow covered, and the leaves are still bright red/yellow/orange.

I spend a considerable amount on having good camoflauge clothing. I need to stay warm, and still be hidden from the whitetails at the same time. Of course, I use this from Cctober to mid January when bow hunting season is in full swing.

Thats probably enough shoes for a semi modded sr20det.I only spend a lot of money on my computer, but seeing I'm a computer science major it comes in handy.

My $20 fleece seems to do the trick. Never liked North Face, because I never liked Seattle, and everyone in Seattle wears REI or North Face.

How about rappers wearing work boots as a status symbol? And singing about their shoes?

Never could figure that one out.

It's because they know the time to go fast, and now ain't it! seriously, every older(mid-life crisis) guy I know with a sports car, will drive the effing wheels off it... only when they choose to.

Indeed. One time i was bombing down this backroad by myself (or so i thought) and this older guy in a Bimmer 3 series starts tagging along, but he wasn't being a prick about it. Then when we got to a two lane red light, i went into the left lane, and looked to my right, and gave him a thumbs up which he returned. That was fun. I had another Bimmer tag along behind me on a backroad (probably the same guy, who knows) and when we got to a stop sign i look in my rearview and he's cracking up at my license plate frame. (says: 'automatics are for sissies')

and there was another incident where i was riding shotgun in an ex's 5th gen Lude, and he got his *** handed to him by a 300zxTT driven by an guy in his 50's.

Old people open it up. They're just not a$$es about it, and they don't do it in traffic like the young guys that drive like a$$es around here.

What i couldnt stand in High School was all the little kids claiming to be rednecks. Ok so daddy lets you use his truck and you wear a rebel flag shirt to school makes you a redneck. Also when since did blaring rap out of daddys truck make you a redneck. (No offence ment to anyone here. I live on a f*cking island in the south, think about it)

When I used to do alot of hiking and camping, most of my stuff would come from thrift stores and the flea market. Those nice $500 REI jackets... they sell for about $10 a couple years later at the flea market. I got some super nice gortex snow pants one time for like $15 too. I hate it that they can charge that much for stuff, it's rediculous.

Good lord. What POSSIBLE use do you have for all those shoes? I have a couple pairs, but I only wear one, and it's my flip flops. I haven't even put on a real pair of shoes in about 5 months.

My parents ask me the same question. I've spent thousands but I am always barefoot or in a pair of reefs or rainbows.

Greg - do you have any advice on backpacks?I'm freaking tiny and all the packs fit larger torsos.

agreed. i have 4 pairs of sneakers that i rotate thru. I'll rotate thru which ones i'll wear in public, or to work, or which ones i'm going to do a lot of walking in. So far i need to replace one pair, they're getting haggard and hurting my ankles.

i don't like to have a lot of anything in one place, so if it gets to a certain point (which it rarely does since i don't spend money on clothes anymore ) i donate all the stuff i don't and won't wear to the local thrifstore/Goodwill.

I've had a whole bag of stuff in my closet for months that's just waiting to be taken to the nearest goodwill. By the time I finally take it, I'll have another bag that needs to go.

I HATE all the dumb-*** names for COFFEE! Damn you again, Seattle!

Dave Barry addresses the issue perfectly:Quote »We begin today with a disturbing escalation in the trend of coffee retailers giving stupid names to cup sizes. This trend began several years ago when Starbucks (motto: "There's one opening right now in your basement") decided to call its cup sizes "Tall" (meaning "not tall" or "small"), "Grande" (meaning "medium") and "Venti" (meaning, for all we know, "weasel snot").

Unfortunately, we consumers, like moron sheep, started actually using these names. Why? If Starbucks decided to call its toilets "AquaSwooshies," would we go along with that? Yes! Baaa! But it's getting worse.

Recently, at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Death March, Mister Language Person noticed that a Starbucks competitor, Seattle's Best Coffee (which also uses "Tall" for small and "Grande" for medium), is calling its large cup size - get ready - "Grande Supremo." Yes. And as Mister Language Person watched in horror, many customers - seemingly intelligent, briefcase-toting adults - actually used this term, as in, "I'll take a Grande Supremo." Listen, people: You should never, ever have to utter the words "Grande Supremo" unless you are addressing a tribal warlord who is holding you captive and threatening to burn you at the stake. Just say you want a large coffee. Because if we let the coffee people get away with this, they're not going to stop, and some day, just to get a lousy cup of coffee, you'll hear yourself saying, "I'll have a Mega Grandissimaximo Giganto de Humongo-Rama-Lama-Ding-Dong decaf." And when that happens, people, the terrorists will have won.[/quote]
