The Edge sucks the big donkey ****. I rented one last year in preparation for snowpocalypse and it was savagely unstable and very un-trucklike. Plus its FWD, wtf is the point of that!?!?!?! I got stuck three times where a normal SUV would have just bounded right through.

Would I completely blow your mind if I told you I was probably going to make it to Carlisle this year?

One reason I bought mine: I bought a bed when I first moved into my apartment a few years ago. I had to ask people from work to help haul it for me because the store didn't deliver and I had no way to move it myself. That sucked. You will use it way more than you'd ever think. Only downside: all of your friends who don't have a truck will call and ask if they can borrow yours. :chuckle:

XTerra - my ideal, really. However, I do have an hour commute (full trip) Monday-Friday... yay gas?

QX4 - Nala WILL hunt me down and wear my skin. He lives in CT now.

4Runner - I saw a few on the highway today... they look HUGE. But I don't have any experience with one, so I'll maybe take a look see in the next few weeks at a dealer.

Escape - Forgot about these. I used to want one once upon a time. Might have to check this out.

Juke - I actually really like them :couch:

Frontier - I honestly don't know what I would do with a bed. Guess you wont really know how much you use it until you have one?

Whatever the Audi and VW and Forrester people said - no.

My heart really has been set on an XTerra for quite sometime. Is the gas mileage really ALL that bad?

And while we're tossing out the Ford name, what about that newer one they came up with? The Edge?
WHAT ABOUT A MAZDA CX-7 OR CX-9 FOR CONSIDERATION?

BZZT. The CD3 came from Mazda. And Ford certainly didn't put the turbocharged MZR into anything.

The CX-7 is a pretty neat car. Banged a girl with one.

I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safe house or a relative close by because you're probably wanted for murder.

What about a Jeep Wrangler?
Mine gets 20 mpg and can literally drive on any road conditions. They're pretty indestructible.

There's a big difference between platform sharing and badge engineering.

The Mazdas don't appeal to me. Don't know why, they just don't.

As far as Jeeps go, I would probably consider a Liberty over the Wrangler, only because I would want the hard top to put s*** on.

Since I'll be around Toyota playing with a 4Runner possibly, how about the RAV4? Small, but large enough space in back for dog/stuff, plus 4WD. I think someone may have mentioned this before. I didn't see it til now, :couch

I mentioned them earlier. Rav4's are very good. Considerably better than a Liberty. The new ones are bigger than the old ones, so they're roomier than you think. My next door neighbor owns one and has 2 teenaged sons. They fit.

Liberty is meh. Wranglers and older 90s/early 2000s Cherokees are awesome.

Just got this month's Consumer Reports yesterday and they rate small SUVs under $26K/hatches/wagons). thought you might find it interesting

SUV's recommended in descending order
Toyota Rav4 (4 cyl)
Subie Forrester 2.5Xpremium
Honda CR-V EX
Mitsub Outlander ES 4 cyl
Nissan Rogue SV
Hyundai Tuscan GLS

Small hatchbacks/wagons in descending order
VW Golf 2.5
Mazda 3 s Sport
Subie Imprezza outback sport
Suzuki SX4 tech AWD
Toyota Matrix
Scion XB
Kia Soul

They did not recommend a Juke as it was a new model. they praised its handling, powetrain and fuel economy, but did not like its ride, noise, rear visibility, comparatively small cargo area, non-telescoping steering wheel, and premium fuel requirement.

Eh, these aren't the kind of trucks you buy to go fast anyway. The VG is crazyultrastupendo reliable, and equally cheap and easy to work on. I drive my grandpa's VG33 2nd gen Pathy pretty frequently and while it may not be a hot rod it certainly never feels like it can't get out of its own way. It has sufficient power. It just doesn't have gobs of power. For a DD, I'd take the VG over the VQ just for the fact that I could put 400k miles on the thing without a second thought (or much money).

The VQ40 sucks down just as much gas...it just returns 300 ft-lb for your trouble.

I am in agreement with this. I am currently shopping first gen Frontier Crew Cabs. Something about the second gens doesn't do it for me.

Yes they are, i'd love to pick up a Cherokee in that year range. They can be had for cheap, you can beat them to death, and they just keep on going. Grand Cherokees blow though, I don't understand how the Cherokee can be reliable, yet the GC is a piece of garbage.
