Eh, these aren't the kind of trucks you buy to go fast anyway. The VG is crazyultrastupendo reliable, and equally cheap and easy to work on. I drive my grandpa's VG33 2nd gen Pathy pretty frequently and while it may not be a hot rod it certainly never feels like it can't get out of its own way. It has sufficient power. It just doesn't have gobs of power. For a DD, I'd take the VG over the VQ just for the fact that I could put 400k miles on the thing without a second thought (or much money).

The VQ40 sucks down just as much gas...it just returns 300 ft-lb for your trouble.

There's "not fast" and there's "so slow I'd rather get out and walk"

I liked the Frontier SE Crew Cab better than the Xterra SE.

As a woman we should suggest this:

Unfortunately, as a woman, it would end up like this:

I wouldn't call it any more feminine than an Altima.

and let me clarify.

I have heard of certain Subarus as being feminine Vehicles or a Miata MX5 (which are awesome track cars.) and Mitsu Eclipse (post 2000) being refered to as "Chick cars".

Mazda CX-7 or CX-9.

Turbo available giving it 244 horses. 4-wheel drive or all wheel drive available. 17-25MPG. Pricing is $21,000 to 32,000. Different than the rest because it's zoom zoom. :chuckle:

My ex had a 2000? Xterra. That thing was unbelievable in the snow, but it was DEFINITELY a gas hog. I remember returning 14 MPG after a 4wd sprint across the state in the snow.
...granted, we were the only people on the road, so it was kinda worth it.

That's not -too- bad, although that's Escalade/Navigator levels of fuel economy.

One of my sisters had a 2001 Xterra SE and the other had a 2001 (maybe 2002) Frontier SE and the Frontier kicked the Xterra's butt!!! Better power, quieter, great in the snow. Xterra was OK in snow but was noisy and weak in comparison.

This, if you don't have a problem dealing with electrical problems out the a**. My old MKIV was a tank, but the radio stopped and the headlights dimmed whenever I adjusted the windows up or down.

I just drove a Jetta TDi sedan on a ice course this past weekend. I enjoyed it despite being one wheel drive (FWD with an open diff). Very comfortable with a strong heater.

Yea, they're awesome. They get great gas mileage, diesels run forever and, like you said, they're very comfortable.

well MK3s and IVs were ripe with electrical gremlins. MKVs arent nearly as bad.

Okay, just off of a quick skim I've gotten:

XTerra - my ideal, really. However, I do have an hour commute (full trip) Monday-Friday... yay gas?

QX4 - Nala WILL hunt me down and wear my skin. He lives in CT now.

4Runner - I saw a few on the highway today... they look HUGE. But I don't have any experience with one, so I'll maybe take a look see in the next few weeks at a dealer.

Escape - Forgot about these. I used to want one once upon a time. Might have to check this out.

Juke - I actually really like them :couch:

Frontier - I honestly don't know what I would do with a bed. Guess you wont really know how much you use it until you have one?

Whatever the Audi and VW and Forrester people said - no.

My heart really has been set on an XTerra for quite sometime. Is the gas mileage really ALL that bad?

And while we're tossing out the Ford name, what about that newer one they came up with? The Edge?

Using this website: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm

I compared an 07 Escape VS 07 Xterra, both 4WD. Escape came to a combined average of 19 MPG, while the XTerra came in at 16 MPG.

Hmn.

Edit: Holy crap. What a nifty website. Calculates a lot of stuff. Cost to drive 25 miles with an Escape? $4.07. XTerra? $4.83. Oh noes.

With that small of a difference between them, I would vote for the Xterra but with a longer commute I think I wouldn't rule out the Escape. If your more of an outdoors person then you'll probably like the Xterra better, if you're going to drive more around town then you may like the Escape better. I think the Escape will have better road manners and probably will provide better consistancy in fuel mileage.

The Edge isn't bad either, it feels more like a car. It's really similar to the Murano in my opinion, just better looking.

Overall, I've driven a lot of cars and if I were looking for a good commuter then Escape, Edge, ect and if I were looking for a good all around SUV then Xterra, Jeep Liberty, Pathfinder/QX4.
