i have a 1995 240sx with a redtop sr20 it has a t25 turbo, intercooler and 3" exhaust. ive driven it about 2000 miles sense i bought it but now its smoking white out the tailpipe. i did my searching and i was thinking it was a headgasket but the oil doesnt smell like gas or coolant and its not murky. also the coolant is norml. im not sure what the problem is. it smokes alot sometimes alot not alot other times. also, i have a narrowband A/F gauge and it jumps all over the place sometimes and reads normal sometimes. im not sure if the problem could be that im running lean because the sensor is messed up?

and if your going to be an a hole and tell me something mean idc dont tell me.

thanks

does it blow out smoke when you are standing still or rolling to a stop?

During part load operation, your ECU uses the narrowband O2 sensor to stay close to stoich ratio... that's why you will see it dance back and forth.

During WOT, heavy load operation, your ECU will take the O2 sensor out of the loop and run a closed-loop control to purposely run your car run rich.

In anycase, if its smoking while you are stopped or slowing down, its possible that your turbo is blown out. T25s tend to go band esp with people pushing the boost.

what does the smoke smell like, if it is slightly sweet, then it is most likely coolant, but if its acrid and burnt smelling it is more likely your turbo seals.

Do you notice the smoke more at idle than while driving? Is the color pure white, or is it more greyish?

hows your idle like?

I kinda had the same symptoms; smoking like crazy at idle and while going, it also backfired like crazy. I found out it was my mafs.

what you could do is while your car is stopped and at idle (and still smoking), pop your hood and unplug your mafs, and see if the idle corrects itself and the smoking stops. if it does, then you know its your mafs.

Do you have any overheating issues, and have you noticed any coolant loss?

If no then it is most likely oil burning, lost likely causes would be worn turbo seals, or worn valve seals.

I'm agreeing with the turbo idea. Best thing to do is to pull the intake piping and see if the turbo's compressor wheel has any play in it and to check for excessive blowby.

You will either have to rebuild it... or replace it. I suggest replace it, either upgrade or just find a better condition t25. I got my second one for 25 bucks and a case of beer , but usually they are more expensive. If you need a t25 desperatly im pretty shure ive a decent one sitting around, its got some shaft play but the seals are still good, i dont want much for it, just need to get some of these parts out of my garage.

Just rebuild the one you have, all said and done it will cost about $120 and then you have the piece of mind that your turbo is essentially brand new.

Anyone know where i could pick up rebuild kits for my t25's i have sitting around? It would be nice to get them fixed up and either sold or kept around for spares.
