Nathan, I have experience with CF and actually have a mold curing right now for a custom front spoiler and splitter for my S13 race car.First of all, it would take more than three layers to get a sunroof panel strong enough to stand on...probably more like 5. At $40 a yard or so for a decent weave, that gets kind of pricey. I'd recommend going with three layers or so and not be so worried about people standing on their roof :)Second, why are you going to go through the trouble of building on oven or autoclave (sp?) for what is pretty much decorative carbon fiber parts? Those things are usually only used by people wanting to get structural CF where the strength/weight is maximized. For this stuff just get some epoxy, make your molds or templates and slap everything together. It will be *almost* as strong with a lot less effort (but it will take overnight to cure). I haven't used an oven for any of my parts (gauge clusters, inside door skin, switch panels) and they look fine and are super strong.Strut towers bars will be tough. How do you plan on keeping them true? What technique will you use for them?I'm not trying to bust your chops or take away business from you (I'm not selling any of my stuff) I just wanted to give you some tips on things I have learned and possibly learn from you :)

TBreu007, if you can't tell...I overengineer EVERYTHING, I'm a big fan of making things as strong as possible, it's also not to hard to make the autoclave/oven that I am thinking of, it'd be an insulated box heated by heat lamps with a temperature probe inside and a couple fans to circulate the air and keep a steady temperature throughout. The rest of you...I'm going to start with the simple closer to flat parts first...if those work out well I'll work my way up to more complicated things, I'm not ruling them out yet. Chet, you might get your door skins it'd just take some time for me to perfect things :) Oh, and Tbreu, the autoclave would be for parts I wanted to be especially strong, the sunroof (I always sit on the roof of cars, thats why I want it strong) and the strut tower brace, not the little trim pieces or headlight covers. The strut tower brace is going to take some doing but I think once I get a blank made that fits well it should be pretty easy to make it out of CF...hit me up on AIM if you want to talk about it sometime :) fstrnu2727, that goes for anyone, feel free to say howdy!

i don't know about you guys but i know something you could make that everyone would buy in a second. a carbon fiber insert to replace the back seat on s13s. I know i would buy it in a second for my coupe. Just my 2 cents.

the backseat replacement is a GREAT idea...I need one myself actually...Now are you talking about something that covers the footwells and makes a flat surface all the way to the back/covers the metal mounting brackets or do you mean something else? It looks like I'm going to be buying a LOT of carbon fiber soon. I'm going to have to work on the simple flat stuff first and if that turns out well and I figure out which weight/how many layers works best for non-structural stuff and what works best for things that takes a load then the more complicated stuff should follow.

HKS already makes one...not carbon fiber, but it's cheap and fits perfect.

And...HPI makes acrylic quarter and rear windows...130,00 Yen for the set....wouldn't be any questions about legality with those I doubt.

Exar -- HPI has alotta stuff the 240 guys would want. Can you use NICO connections to get one of our sponsors to consider being a distributer?

about the CF parts.

Sunroof = GREAT idea.CF headlight covers (vented) also good.

.. i've got no other ideas right now..

oh yeah.

agasthiya makes a really cool part. they use it to attach wings to, I thought maybe you could make a longer one to hide unsightly rust spots left from removing a stock wing. Cheaper than getting real body work, or replacing the hatch.

and EXAR- While we are trying to get in touch with overseas companies. checkout Wurz www4.osk.3web.ne.jp. Very nice CF hood for S13. Vented, Fits SR's & might be cheaper than yoshio factory.

intesnse power already imports the WURZ parts, ands its MORE than the yoshio factory piece.

I'll talk to phase-2, see if they can do anything for us on the HPI parts...-chet

Allright, due to the demand exhibited in this thread I'll be getting things together and pumping out a few prototypes of different pieces with an emphasis on the sunroof, vented/non-vented headlight covers, some small trim stuff, maybe a hood, and a few other things. I'll post pictures when I have something worthwhile :D Thanks for you guys input!

wannabe - i dont see how its any different from people with giant pictures in their sigs,

what about some kinda lip to complete the front bumper for the 91-93 front ends? something like the stock lip on the s14 but fits the s13.

I would definitely buy the sunroof off of you, but it would have to be for a 96 S14. Id probably buy acrylic windows tho, gotta love being able to see.And heres just to put it out there, what about CF wheels??

Nathan what about CF A-pillars...like just a straight one for the passengers side and one with a gauge housings built in for the drivers side?

I was thinking about that today...I'd definately be game for a set.

I'll keep everyone updated...competition doesn't bother me, it's mostly for fun/parts for my own car...I can just fund it by the occasional sale of something. However, I'm still in the get the car running then divert money to CF phase...as soon as I have something made I'll let everyone know! School just started though and I'm running low on money so it could be a little while.
