Welcome. Those wheels sounds pretty aggressive, and MIGHT not fit. Your best bet (as with most of your thread) is to post the specific question in that specific subforum.Coilovers: I'd go with Tein Flex, but there are some other coilover companies out there that are also good (I think Enduratech is a NICO sponsor). If it were my cash, I'd go with the Flex.Skilz10179 wrote:My Official Newb Post
I'm new here kinda, i've been reading here for the better part of the last year but not posting. I'm a Michigan guy, just outside of Detroit. I am in the process of buying a 98 240SE 5spd, i hope to have the deal complete within the next week or so. This is a car that i've been searching for for almost a year but now i've found it!
My plans for the next year are simple (at least for me), wheels/tires, coilovers, OEM lip, c/f hood/trunk, and maybe some chassis braces and bushings as well as a couple JDM peices or NISMO accessories. After that i plan to start building a KA-T turbo system which i already have a few parts for.
My first question is about wheels i am interested in that a local guy is selling. They are 18" x 9.5 and 18" x10 offset 29 and 25 and i am kind of worried about fitment issues with coilovers. I've been reading a lot in the Tires, Wheels, Brakes and Suspesnion forum but i can't really find a sure answer. Anyone have any thoughts on this, are these things going to fit???
Next question is about coilovers. The car will see a lot more street time than it will track time so i don't need coilovers with back-breaking spring rates, been there, done that. I have my eye on a couple different Tein set ups, the Super Street coilovers and the Flex. It seems like the only real difference between the two is that the Flex comes with pillow mounts and the SS uses your stock mounts. I'm really not sure of my other options in the $1000-$1500 price range. Anyone have any suggestions or comments?
Next question is about the 300ZX brake upgrade. I was looking for a good write up on this with a complete list of parts needed. I found the "TECH PAGES" but the 300ZX brake upgrade link is blank, every other link works except this one. Where else can i find a good write up on this?
Last, KA-T question. No swaps for me, if i ever do a swap it will be a LSX so don't even bother telling me anything about SR or RB swaps. With that said i plan to boost the KA, which from my reading sounds like a pretty stout motor. I actually aready have a lot of turbo parts to use including a Garrett GT3076R, Turbonetics Evolution gate, Greddy Type-S BOV, Profec B Spec2 EBC, custom intercooler (HKS end tanks and Griffen core),LM1 wide band O2, RC 550's, piping, couplers ect. My question is about engine management for a 98 (OBD2), from my reading it looks like there are 3 choices, piggy back, full stand alone or wiring in a 95 OBD1 ecu. Isn't there any real reflash software out there for us 97-98 OBD2 guys???
I hope i'll get some real answers here rather that have to ask these newb questions out in the other forums.
Thanks!
The timing chain is supposed to last for the entire life of the vehicle. Stuff to look into is tires, belts (alternator, powersteering, water pump, AC), hoses, plugs, wires, cap&rotor, the waterpump itself. Anything else you'd have to actually look and see if its good/bad.soupmotorsport wrote:hi everyone! just bought a 95 240 recently with 123xxx mile on the stock KA. just need some info on any major things i should change to it in order to make it a daily driver with few worries, such as timing chain etc. If im posting in the wrong area be kind to lead me to where i can find the answer thanks.
timing chain being worn plus tensioner needing to be replaced would make that noise. you should find a timing kit and have it installed. not a first-timer diy project and if you let it go too long your engine will not run and will need more expensive repairs.Tamoz wrote:Hi I just joined this forum, Im about to buy a 91 240sx (hopefully tomorrow) with 288,000 miles on the car. The body looks straight. The interior definitely needs a lot of work.
But one thing that concerned me is a "ticking" or "knocking" noise coming from the front cover right under the valve cover. The owner told me its a chain motor ( i don't know anything about these motors yet) and that the noise is coming from a loose tensioner right under the valve cover. Does this sound possible? He said others have noted it as a common problem. Please let me know if i should be worried about this noise or not.
Also if you have any advise where i should look for new seats for it cause the drivers seat is horrible and will not lock in place anymore (reclining). Thanks for any advice and help you can provide.
check the fsm (factory service manual) for most of the specs you are looking for.ice_man152 wrote:ok never posted my stupid newbie question so i guess ill post it a couple months late. haha.
just wondered the stock est. hp at the crank, at the wheels of the sohc ka
kinda lookin for a spec sheet on the car, i have a 90 240sx pig nose but wondered the complete specs of it. like weight of the vehicle. has no power options or sunroof. Also wanted to know how light people can get that year car :-D thanks guys.
good question to take to the wheels and tires subforum. there is an ongoing thread featuring users' wheel and tire fitment with pics, browse through that before you post a new thread though.donny1298 wrote:Hey Need an Opinion, well Am Getting 5Zigen FN01RC17x8 +25mm (F)17x9 +35mm (R)
What ideal tire size should in run on them? BTW stock suspension and a DD
No, it will probably look pretty awful if it isn't lowered. And yes, good body kits are designed to just bolt right on where the other comes off.Two Fowty wrote:How do I attach it once I get it?
I mean I'm pretty sure I just take off my bumpers and put the new ones on, and then bolt on the side skirts, but will I have to change anything else on the body? (fenders, qps, etc.)
Any comments on how to do a body kit would be nice.
And would a body kit look good on an s13 that has 17's and isnt lowered.
so how would i lower it, and would it be really expensive?PapaSmurf2k3 wrote:No, it will probably look pretty awful if it isn't lowered. And yes, good body kits are designed to just bolt right on where the other comes off.
if you are just trying to achieve a "look" and dont care about performance, you can find a bunch of cheap coilovers out there that will drop the car. they will likely make your car handle and feel like crap on the road, though. even high-end coilovers can do that for you if you just try and dump the car and not worry about anything else. Two Fowty wrote:
