Q? im driving to down town atlanta the other night and notice when i let off the accellerator it has a stumble when you get back into the throttle. no big deal it comes and goes. get off the interstate in down town on a hill. it very difficult to negotiate when you give it gas and it tries to die. i stall it and wont restart. this is a 50-60 mile drive. get the little bashtard towed home. (yeah thats a tow bill you dont want!!!) go out there sunday morning to see what the deal is and started right up. pouring black smoke. my question what can cause it to load up. this is a KAe by the way. i unplugged the mafs to see if it would start it did not. now ifyou unplg it it just goes to default. what else can cause it. injector sticking, inj driver going out (ecu)??????? im lost. looked for simular conversation but no luck.

Hmmm... my MAF put out about 1 volt at idle, and about .5 when the car was off, but the on key was on. I doubt it is your maf though. Have you tried seafoaming the car? Or cleaning the idle air control valve? (That is what controls the air going into the engine at idle). Will it continue to run if you give it gas? Have you checked for any vacuum leaks?

Do you have an FSM? The link for them is in my sig if you don't.

FSM= Factory Service Manual... the only link in my sig.

If you seafoam the car, you should also replace the spark plugs and O2 Sensor AFTER performing the seafoam.

Nope, I've been running Z32 fronts, stock rears, and stock BMC for years now.

Hey I just bought 300zx rear calipers but dont have the front ones. Would it matter if I put the 300zx rear calipers on and left the front ones stock?

You have all the parts for the swap on the rear(e brakes and all)? If so you can do the swap but keep in mind that most of you stopping power is in the front. But no, it'll not hurt anything to do the swap on just the rear.

it MIGHT make the car rear-brake bias. Meaning you might lock up the rears before the fronts if you do that.

Im installing a new head unit in my s13 HB but the shifter (auto) is in the way...

Is it okay (or even possible) to move the shift down so that I can have room for the installation?

Yeah, if it wont let you, turn the car on, throw the shifter all the way down, shut the car off, and put the parking brake on.

I have a chance at getting a set of 4 tires and wheels for $50 today. the tires are 225/60/15, though I am not sure of the offset/width of the rim. If these tires were on my stock se rims, Would they rub all around, or only in the front? (93 hatch)

That depends on the offset, but hey, $50... you can't go wrong. You can turn them around and sell them for more than that, or even get more for the scrap alluminum.

225/60/15 is going to be taller than your stock tire too, so your speedo may be off a little bit.

I always run it through the brake booster line. There are directions on the back of it, but basically, I put about 1/2 of a can through the brake booster, shut the car off, and leave it for about 10 mins. I come back, flog the **** out of it out on the road (with the brake booster line hooked back up obviously. Also make sure you are in a semi-low traffic area, you don't want to smoke out a road and cause an accident), and then drive for another day or so before I replace the plugs and O2 sensor. The other half of the bottle, either run it in your gasoline, or save it for another day/car.

IACV, yeah, remove it, carb cleaner it, toothbrush it, however you can manage it. Look for vacuum leaks while you are back there.

This is a good thread..

Is it worth it to buy a 240 for cheap and fix it up instead of paying 4G or does it just depend?

buy it for cheap and fix it up. It'll keep you off the street, out of trouble, and will give you valuable knowledge that you can use throughout your life (or when the car breaks down in the future hah).

That's the way i was thinking. Is $1000 a good price for a paint job? Also is there any thing to look for in partic. besides rust? Thank you brother

$1000 is a good price for a good paint job. Deals can be found, but sometimes you can pay $1000 for a paint job that will get you... well, a bad paint job.

You should also do a compression check on the engine (should read higher than 149psi). Check the oil, make sure it isn't "Milky" (meaning blown head gasket). Check to see if the motor rocks back and forth a lot while you crank it (requires a friend... indicates blown motor mounts). Also, bald rear tires (or 1 bald rear tire) indicates its had the crap beaten out of it. If it is a hatchback and has a spoiler, chances are it has rust underneath it. Look in the spare tire well for copious amounts of water.

Thank you im sure ill have more questions in the future. Ill probably get into one when it warms up if i dont change my mind. I just dont want to get in over my head and realize the car needs more than i can provide since they are old.

They are pretty simple cars. Stock parts should be pretty easy to come by because everyone likes to upgrade...

It might depend on the state, but as long as its just the bumper cover, and not the bumper support, then yes. No hood should also be legal.
